I’ve received several large mailing pieces from Mitt in the past week in St. Pete.

His smiling face, posing with wife, and words about commitment to family have convinced my wife that he “looks presidential.”

Got a lot of work to do to get her to look at his positions on the issues in comparison to Newt. Can’t push — she makes up her own mind. But I can be sure she has access to better info than what’s in the mail. :-)

You make great points. The process seems to be stacked against the citizenry.

At least he’s helping with your compost pile, bird cage liners and fireplace starters.

If he were alive and eligible, how much money do you think it would take for Hitler* to win the presidency of the US?

Who is his opponent?

There are numerous projects you can create and utilize your ‘trash’ for. I’ve seen couches made of phone books, rolled paper, glue, and a nice blanket to cover it. Paper is very sturdy when properly layered - after all it’s wood...

Let him blow his money. I believe that the Romney campaign is engaging in a degree of overkill that is mechanistic, unintelligent, and will ultimately backfire against him. They are subscribing to a pure mathematical model that says “if I expose you to “X” number of mailings I will capture .01137 of those who read my propaganda”. And they send another, and another, and another, under the erroneous assumption that each and every one of those mailings achieves an additional .01137. Romney’s is a campaign run by high-priced consultants, and one of the traps is that the more expensive the consultant you hire, the more you are inclined to believe them. And I think this is exactly where they are at. We see this in the mysterious, inexplicable “ceiling” on Romney’s popularity that somehow, despite all the $$ spent, could not bust through 25% or so favorable.

I think Mitt is probably a nice guy. He is undoubtedly a smart guy. He is good looking. He is excellent in business. But I think he is sub-mediocre in politics, and his record bears this out. I also think that Conservatives and yes, even those mysterious independents understand viscerally that he is a finger-in-the-air guy and that such an approach isn’t going to beat 0bama. (That last sentence is my opinion, but I honestly think Mitt would not beat 0bama)

Rush’s show today has stated my opinion precisely. It is not so much that the GOP base wants Newt. They know they do not want Mitt. They know even more they do not want to run another compromiser who will lose to the POS we have in the White House now.

Newt had a million-dollar money bomb and raised 1.2 mil in less than 24 hours... HOWEVER here in central florida, there are about 3 Willard ads per half-hour on TV 2 attacking Newt, 1 pro Willard.

What’s worse, this has been going on for almost 3 weeks now... 3 weeks. I have not seen one Newt ad, nor Santorum or Paul on TV.

I believe FLA will be much more difficult than SC, and if Newt can pull FL out, Santorum will finally leave. SAntorum has been talking a lot of trash about Newt the last few days since losing SC.

If you have any family at all living in Fla - and most people do - could you please contact them and try to get them engaged and voting for Newt.

Here is the link for national phone banks for Newt, so you don’t have to be in FL to call him. I did a lot of calling for SC and the people were very nice and very kind, and it was a great experience. They were very excited to hear from people out of state. I think people on this forum could have a great effect on FL voters. please consider it, if you would.

Thank you - Florida is going to be tough.

I base it on a few different things.

1. This primary is Republican only. SC wasn’t.

2. The Newtster overcame a 23 point deficit to beat Romney in SC. Right now according to Rasmussen Gingrich is ahead by 9 points. Ten days left. Of course things could swing either way at this point.

3. Romney is going very negative right now. We saw where it got him in SC. He’s going even worse now.

4. The more the establishment whine the better Newt does.

Tonight’s debate is going to be goooood.

Definitely stacked against us. The only time we have broken through against the elites was Reagan, and he had to overcome the party machinery every step of the way. I am convinced with hindsight that the elites had a plan all along to endure Reagan, use him while they could, but NEVER allow someone like him to win ever again. The Bushes have done more to tear down and reverse what Reagan started than any Democrat ever could have. But I digress.

It remains to be seen if even the massive outrage and activism by conservatives in reaction to rampant marxism at the federal level will be enough to overcome the elites and their rigged game. My view is that if it is not, then it is conclusively proven that the GOP is not the place for conservatives, that no matter what we cannot get a nominee through. In that event, I am not willing to take forever the position of being junior partner in a party that will shepherd us to socialism slightly slower than Democrats will. My longterm goal is reversal of the socialism, and a return to constitutional government. If we can't get that through the GOP, then we have to leave the GOP. Yes that will cause a split. But I think that a principled conservative party can overtake and then make the GOP irrelevant, once it gets sufficient traction. As soon as it polls more than the Country Club party, people will start peeling off left and right, and then the GOP will whither and die, like the Whigs.

To be clear, I really hope that doesn't happen. The fallout is impossible to predict. It may not happen quickly enough to defeat Obama. But if conservatives are shut out again, it has to happen. I take as my inspiration Perot's campaign in 1992, where he jumped into the lead, with Bush in second place, and the Democrat candidate, Clinton, in 3rd place. Perot was a loony populist, and became the leader by fooling a lot of people. But he tapped into the desire that a lot of people share to rid us of the elites of both parties that tell us what to think and lead us closer to oblivion every year. Imagine if a principled conservative taps into that sentiment instead!

Best wishes, FRiend.

Romeny has money. period.

Romeny has all the establishment lock step with him because THEY want money.

Romney is using the same consulting firm that Charlie Crist used. Well that did not work out so well...

The Robocalls are next. Those are ALREADY super annoying.

Romeny is arrogant in not trying to find what makes Gingrich so appealing.

Hmmm...before today all the robocalls I had gotten talked about all how wonderful Romney is. (Blech.)

Today’s robocall was trashing Newt. I wonder how many other Floridians have observed a drastic change in tone today.

I have only listened to one.

They come in on voice mail and I delete them as soon as I see what they are. I will say the first and only one I have listened to was attacking Newt.

Frankly I am not happy at all about a Newt being the Republican candidate but Romney would be far worse.
