Brady Campaign "Saddened" by Gabrielle Giffords Resignation
opposingviews.com ^ | 22 January, 2012 | Brady Campaign

WASHINGTON -- Brady Campaign Acting President Dennis Henigan today issued the following statement in response to U. S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ announcement that she would resign her seat in Congress this week.

"We understand but are deeply saddened by the news that Rep. Giffords has decided to resign her seat in Congress because of the demands of her continued rehabilitation from the gunshot wound she suffered a year ago in Tucson. Congress and the American people now have lost the service of another devoted public servant because of gun violence. It is sadly reminiscent of the nation's loss of Jim Brady as Presidential press secretary due to a similar gunshot injury 30 years ago. We hope Rep. Giffords' departure is only temporary and wish her well on her amazing and inspiring recovery." Share This Story

The Giffords shooting touched off an attempt to reimpose the nasty "assault weapon" ban on firearms with certain cosmetic features, and a ban on magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. The attempt in congress led to a bet between well known freerupublic poster Travis McGee and myself. Travis made the prediction that magazines over 10 rounds would be banned for citizen ownership in the United States by the end of 2011, while I contended that "gun control" had become a toxic issue and that the ban would not happen.

Travis, when he is not posting on freerepubic is the well known and successful author Matthew Bracken. The bet was for a signed case of his new book, Castigo Cay.

I have read Castigo Cay, and I was going to buy a case anyway, as it is a compelling adventure story and cautionary tale. It occurs sometime in the near future in the Carribean, and is a page turner that is very hard to put down. Do yourself a favor, and start reading on a Friday night.

Fortunately for the country, Congress did not impose a ban an magazines of over 10 round capacity, and Matt will be sending me a case of signed copies.

Not to worry, she’s hanging around for the STOU so Hussein can wave her rather than Fast and Furious as another reason to make him Dictator. It will also be a great way to kick off the Political Career of her Libtard husband.

The Brady Campaign is saddened that they do not have a prop that can be rolled out to fundraise and lobby Congress similar to the prop that was once the man, Jim Brady.

Dude, let Travis out of the bet. He’s a struggling author who can barely make ends meet. Heck, I heard he joined the military cuz times were so hard, and for a while, he couldn’t even afford a house and lived on a boat!!!

I’m saddened and a bit outraged that it took a year for her to decide.A full year when the people of her district had no representation in the House.

Yep. She’s going to be used for bigger and more ambitious things than just some little ol’ seat in congress.

Sarah Brady and her group are the same type of scumbags as the Democrat activists who were the “9/11 Widows” that took a horrible event and used it to promote a radical left agenda. Cindy Sheehan is a another example.

The media gives the cretins a platform they do not deserve.

Jim Brady’s injuries would not have been stopped by any gun control law.

I wish conservatives would wage open war against these types. Every reference to “Sarah Brady” should start with something like “Democrat activist Sarah Brady, a woman so low that she misuses her husband’s tragedy as a political tool, said the following today...”

The same should be done when dealing with all enemies of freedom, including left-wing journalists.

For example, “Democrat Chris Matthews, a former legislative aide to Democrat Tip O’Neill, said he had a tingle running up and down his leg for Democrat Barack Hussein Obama.”

The media wants full disclosure by Republicans? Let’s start forcing the same on them.

American people now have lost the service of another devoted public servant because of gun violence.

Regarding this particular "devoted public servant," my guess is that fewer than one in a thousand Americans would have recognized her name the day before the shooting.

And since they say "another," I wonder who else it is that they have in mind that came before Giffords.

Where would liberalism be without identifying and using victims?

Yep, you were right and I was wrong about a high-cap mag ban coming out of the Giffords shooting. Other than losing the bet, this is a solid indication that even with such high-profile shootings, the gun grabboids in congress don't have the juice to push through serious legislation hindering our RKBA. For now.

Maybe it would take a stadium sniper, and mass casualties, after all.

I wouldn't put it past the Obama/Holder team, if they thought they could get away with it. They didn't mind 100s of Mexicans and a few U.S. federal agents being killed by Fast and Furious weapons gunwalked into Mexico.

” She’s going to be used for bigger and more ambitious things than just some little ol’ seat in congress. “

Well. Brady lost half of his brain and became a Democrat - Giffords started out a Democrat, so there’s no limit to how far she can go...

I received this email. Any truth to it?

PROOF
THAT WE HAVE SOME IDIOTS IN
WASHINGTON!

Georgia Arms is the 5th
largest retailer of ...223 Ammo in America .. They
sell 9mm, ...45, .223 ammunition. They normally
buy spent brass from the US Department of
Defense. Spent brass is “one time used” shell
cases used by our Military for training
purposes.

They buy the brass, recondition
it, and then reload the brass for resale to Law
Enforcement, Gun Clubs, Gun Shops, and stores
like Wal-Mart. They normally buy 30,000 lbs of
spent brass at a time.

This week the DoD
wrote a letter to the owner of Georgia Arms and
informed him that from now on the DoD will be
destroying the spent brass, shredding it.
It will no longer be available to the ammo
makers, unless they buy it in a scrap shredded
condition (which they have no use
for).

The shredded brass is now going to
be sold by the DoD to China as scrap metal,
after the DoD pays for it to be shredded. The
DoD is selling the brass to China for less money
than the ammo makers have been paying, plus the
DoD has to pay to have the brass shredded and do
the accounting paperwork.

This sure helps
the economy now doesn’t it? Sell cheaper to
China , and do not sell at all to a proven US
business. Any hidden agenda working here?
Obama going after the Firearms Industry and our
ammunition!!
The Georgia Arms owner even
related a story that one of his competitors had
already purchased a load of brass last week. The
DoD contacted him this week and said they were
sending someone over to make sure it was
destroyed. Shell cases he had already
bought!

The brass has no value to the
ammo maker if it is destroyed/shredded/melted.

The ammo manufacturer only uses the empty
brass cases to reload different calibers, mainly
.223 bullets.

The owner of Georgia Arms
says that he will have to lay off at least half
of his 60 workers, within 2-3 months if the DoD
will no longer sell spent brass cases to the
industry. Georgia Arms has 2-3 months of
inventory to use, by summer they’re
out.

If the Reloading Industry has to
purchase new manufacture brass cases, then the
cost of ammunition will double or even
triple, plus Obama wants to add a 500% tax
on each shell.

You can read the
information and see the DoD letter to Georgia
Arms here:
