I watched a few minutes of SUCKER PUNCH on TV last week...It was not that good.

Medved stated that THE ARTIST was the best film of the year. I would like to rent MONEYBALL DVD...

I would like to see THE DEBT as well...

The best movie of the year is courageous. I was mesmerized by it and it is a long movie but felt like 10 minutes. A conservative not having this movie on his list is worthless to me. I hated The Decendents....horribly boring. I liked Just Go with it. It was funny.

I saw all those movies Rombot Medved mentioned and he’s full of it. They ALL stink or mostly disappoint. 2011 was the very worse year for movies that I can recall. 2012 has to be better. Please.

That said... the “Ape” movie in ‘11 brought back memories of Charlton Heston’s work, so that’s the ONLY one I’d recommend.

I should add that I’ve also seen Warhorse, The Debt, and Hugo this year. They were all good, but my 2 favorites were The Help (I’ve seen it twice) and The Mighty Macs which enjoyed a VERY short run at the local cinema.

The Mighty Macs is outstanding, but apparently couldn’t get a good distribution contract. It is G rated, a true story, and thoroughly delightful. The biggest surprise was how much the woman’s BBall team from a tiny Catholic college influenced the sports world. I would like to see it again, but it has disapppeared from the theaters around here.

I agree. The new Planet of the Apes movie was the most impressive movie I saw of 2011, no list of “best movies” is complete without it. The story was intelligent and the special effects were better than Avatar. The movie blew the crappy 2001 Planet of the Apes remake out of the water.

I agree. It was the best movie I saw this year. Or should I say the best half movie. They left so many plot lines unresolved I've got to figure there is a follow up sequel (the second half) coming this summer.

I enjoyed The Debt too. I thought The Help was awful. Nicely made with good acting. But the main theme of the movie reminded me too much of the stories Jesse Jackson told about spitting in white people’s food when he worked at some fast food joint. And the Black characters were very very good, but (most) some of the White characters were very very bad racists. And that made the poo pie okay......

Loved that movie, also the two Herzog documentaries Into the Abyss and Cave of Dreams were awesome. Take Shelter was a great slow burner, and Stake Land was an awesome kick arse horror flick.

I just saw Warhorse last Friday.

For its imagery, it’s a beautifully done film; and the general plot and story-line do make a great tale.

One big problem I had was - to my mind - the actor for one of the key characters, the young man who raises the horse from birth, was chosen more for his appearance than his acting ability. By the story you wanted to totally empathize with him, but as an actor he was less than convincing - for me.

I had only one really great concern about the movie. I hope to G-d that some of what they put the horse through was no where near as dreadful in real life as they made it seem on screen. For that aspect alone, I want to give an Oscar to the horse.

I strongly disagree with him on Moneyball. I found it to be pointless, with almost nothing about the story to even consider making a movie about.

The best movies I have seen this year are Touchback with Kurt Russell, Win Win, and The Music Never Stopped. I enjoyed Courageous as well.

The new version of Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is the worst major move I’ve seen in some time.

Maybe he knows something about movies. Given all the people who you might agree with about politics who say they never go to the movies at all, there are a lot of opinions about movies that are worth less than his.

I rather liked The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and that Rooney Mara did a great job with the Salander character.

However, when my Mom asked me about it, I said “It may have Christopher Plummer in it, but The Sound of Music it ain’t.”

War Horse the movie was nothing compared to the brutal stage version currently running in major cities around the world. Because of the use of gigantic puppets, the brutality was maximized rather than minimized as in this film. There was no scene of the horses being trained to ignore gun shots - by firing close to their ears. Or horses being put to death by having knives thrust into their brains. The best scene in the film was the barbed wire scene. It was also beautifully done on stage.

I did enjoy Midnight in Paris, as a 20s literary fan.

The characterizations were priceless. The costumes were perfect. The examples of a lady’s club were on target for the time.

My daughter read the book and recommended it. I thought it would be like you describe, but it really isn’t. I thought the film showed a tremendous growth of understanding in 3 areas — race relations, child rearing, and women’s careers.

I didn’t live in the South, or was raised with servants, but I guarantee I lived some of those situations (no poo pie, however). I don’t know if you are male, or female, but a lot of ladies’ organizations were just as portrayed.

In fact, you’ve seen it in the movies before with Julia Roberts in “Something to talk about”.

Hugo was a nice film, but it could have been so much better.

I think Martin Scorcese was the wrong choice to direct the film. I thought he wasted some otherwise good performances by Ben Kingsley and Sasha Baron Cohen.

Frankly, you are the only other person I know that saw Hugo.

If the movie had had on screen everything said to have been done to the horses in the book, I think, that after initial word-of-mouth it would have turned off more viewers, not gained more viewers.

The barbed-wire scene was bad enough for me, and that was just the horse alone against the horrific obstacles stretched across the battlefield. Like I said, I only hope the scenes like that were “staged” and that the actor-horse did not have to suffer as his character did, just to get it on film.
