Last week, the local equivalent of such an event took place in Croatia, but instead of anger and demonstrations, not a single word of protest was heard from anywhere in the country.
I am referring to the December 28 memorial masses conducted in Zagreb and Split (and perhaps elsewhere as well) to mark the 51st anniversary of the death of Ante Paveliæ, the head of state of the infamous Independent State of Croatia, created by the Nazis and their Italian allies in 1941. Following its establishment, rule was turned over to the local fascist movement, the Ustasha, headed by its Poglavnik (leader) Ante Paveliæ.
I was just going to observe: of course not, the Croats committed genocide mostly against the Serbs, and only secondarily against Jews. The one thing more constant than anti-Semitism in Western European and American culture and thought is pravaslavnophobia — the irrational fear and hatred of Orthodox Christians, esp. Slavic Orthodox Christians. Once the Latin church dropped it and started being friendly, the secularists took it up with a vengance: even after 9/11 they bomb us on behalf of jihadis allied with Al Qaeda and favor Muslim immigration over Christian from lands where the Muslims persecute Orthodox Christians.
Not really. Most Americans know little or nothing about Orthodox Christians, much less harbor fear and hatred for them.
I’ve noticed that even many TEA Party types think Serbia was the one and only bad guy in the Albania-Kosovo-Serbia-Bosnia conflicts. Thank the mainline media.
Our policies have rewarded Albania and its violence.
One of the items that turned up was a newspaper item from 2008 in which Ivo Banac, a noted Croatian historian, called him "a disgrace for the church, the people, the state" (Slobodna Dalmacija, July 26, 2008).

No indignation because it didn’t happen on TV, and almost nobody in the part of the world where people watch TV for their news knows where Croatia is, or cares.
Knowing little or nothing about often goes with prejudice and hatred of, though it was not “most Americans” I was referring to, but the secularist “elites”, particularly in foreign policy: every conflict between Orthodox Christians and Muslims has the U.S. siding with the Muslims, or at least winking at their aggression (e.g. Cyprus). If broadened to Eastern Christians v. Muslims, the sole exception was Nagoro-Karabak, where the U.S. backed the Armenians against the Muslim Azeris.
East Timor and the Phillipines. Of course, those are Catholics vs. Muslims.
The US has also arguably supported the various Christian groups in Lebanon.
Oh, the U.S. will back Latins and Uniates when the Muslims come after them. I was pointing out the apparent hatred our “elites” have for Eastern Christians.
