This area is a little community of tract homes off German Church Road around 38th Street.

The thugs live next to John Marshall High School in some government apartments that always get tornado damage. LOL

That area is da hood now and a dangerous high crime area.

Heard a news broadcast last night that people who live there reported that so many drunks with guns shot up the place on New Years Eve. The news were showing bulletholes in some of the buildings and homes. Those guns probably came from one of Eric Holders gun stores.

I guess nobody was killed though. Pure luck, I suppose.

Then I formulated a theory. Then I did a little research, and my theory was correct.

Yes, sadly, your theory is absolutely correct. But, on a more politically correct note, how dare you make such a correct assumption? [sarc]You, sir, are a bigoted profiler.[/sarc]

I know, right? We see it. But we better not SAY we see it.

And it’s always the same something.

..often enough to serve as a legitimate concern and caution for conducting one's relationships.

We lived about Mitthoffer and 30th ~ real close to the old Grassy Creek Farms meat shop. We'd walk as far as the Witte farm ~ she had a hand pump in the kitchen. And a huge barn.

So the Brothers have taken over the old homestead? Fur Shur they didn't venture that far out of town back the good ol' days.

BTW, we moved in closer to Brightwood ~ more stores.

That story coming right at Christmas was pretty awful. That mom took tht Bell creature in because he was on the football team wither her son some years ago. She fed him, washed his clothes and gave him a place to stay when he needed it.

So very sad. The neighborhood is a mixed one. In all fairness, so many of the black folks who are neighbors there, were very sad and outraged because they liked this family.

Just another sorry state of our culture anymore. This is also proof that even if drugs were legal, the users still would need money to buy them. So that stops that argument.

According to the dominant thinking, making this correct one as bad as the criminals.

I agree with you about the sorry state of our culture, and also that the legalization of drugs would not stop people from becoming addicts who would steal for drug money (depending on the drug), but what argument are you referring to that you think is refuted by this situation?

Wow, we lived pretty close. After my husband came home from Vietnam, we bought a little stone house off 52nd and Carvel not too far off Keystone. We had a second boy and moved up to one of those little brick Glick homes off 38th and Mitthoffer. It was a clean little starter home area and safe back then.

Then we hit the bigtime. LOL and moved out to Oaklandon. Then from there to Fishers. That area is monsterous now.

But yeah, the old homestead is crumbling sidewalks, cheap “clubs”, dollar stores, and all those old apartments have bars on the windows and doors.

My great uncle used to teach science at John Marshall High School but quit after he got beat up in the bathroom for not giving out a good grade. That has been many years ago and he died a while back.

Oh well

Once again, the poor grammar of an online Fox News story screams out at me. You’d think they could find a competent English major or two to edit the efforts of their other interns.

I'm sure. This is where the "content of their character" comes in: this guy was arrested three different times. I suspect the white family excused it on the grounds that either he was "disadvantaged" or "being set up" or "misunderstood." But the fact is, he was simply a bad person, and I think they overlooked it because he was black. Which is merely the flip side of racism.

Oh, it just made me think about how people who are for legalizing drugs always say that it would stop crime. This situation just made me think that it wouldn’t have saved these folks because the thugs needed money for their dope.

I was just musing. This story makes me sad. I know it happens all the time, but...

Sounds pretty local. When I attended Warren guys would come in from hunting in that area where the Grassy Creek park is and they'd check their firearms in the high school's locked gun cases.

They didn't want anybody breaking open a car or truck to steal a gun while the kids were in class.

Sho'nuf different around there but I bet folks still have guns ~ lots of them.

I totally agree. He was on the ball team. Most likely he put on the black Eddie Haskell persona for the Mom.

A note for the history books ~ Brightwood was a tough town full of railroad workers and bankrobbers. My grandmother and grandfather moved there from Fortville.

She found the partial basement was full of Ku Klux Klan materials ~ which she used to start the coal furnace for a number of years.

Eventually folks like Ted Stevens moved on, John Dillinger (an old neighbor) had been long dead, and the Indianapolis black community made a big lurch into the East Side and snapped up Brightwood almost overnight.

The crime rate declined just as sharply. My grandmother was delighted.

Then, one day, one of the new neighbors tried to rob them at gunpoint while they waited on a bus ~ WRONG PEOPLE ~ within seconds grandmother threw her hands up in front of her and his arms went up and he lost the gun to my grandfather who then held him on the ground until the cops showed up ~ which they did since they'd increased their patrols when Brightwood went black.

What you have on the Far East Side is another big lurch. I don't believe it reduced the crime rate but it may have cleared up 46218 a bit.

BTW, when Bobby Cole (a local bank robber) lay dying in a house out on Mitthoffer, he called his aunt Jewel Stout and confessed all and begged forgiveness. She turned his butt in machschnell!

That some interesting history. I always enjoy it when you tell about it.

New thugs replaced the other thugs. Part of the problem with the crime rate there now is that many illegals have also moved into that territory.

You can imagine the outcome of that. Lots of gang activity.

Sounds like your Grandparents were a helluva team.

So do you think they are stuck on stupid because they are liberals (nothing in the article states that specifically) or because they attended a Christian Church?

Oh, it just made me think about how people who are for legalizing drugs always say that it would stop crime.

Most arguments about drug legalization that I've seen (and that I've made) are focused on the supply side of the equation, rather than the user side. In other words, people are starting to realize that keeping drugs illegal simply creates a more lucrative market for the sellers of drugs, such as gangs, drug cartels, etc. AND has resulted in extreme abuses of civil liberties of innocent people by law enforcement. It is that side of the equation that drives the pro-legalization thinking.

Unfortunately, as far as users go, crackheads will be crackheads, regardless of whether drugs are legal or not. I don't have a solution for that, other than widespread education/prevention programs (which must have a moral underpinning, in my opinion).
