Lock & Load (NM)

No one knows exactly why, but a lot of people are interested in packing heat.

In fact, FBI data suggest that gun sales in New Mexico and nationally will hit record levels in 2011.

Will Hogsett, sales director at Calibers Shooter Sports Center said strong sales at his store may be due to an improving economy or lingering fears about stronger gun control before the 2012 elections.

Sales of handguns and shotguns continue to be the big sellers among people looking for protection in their homes, he said. “The big thing people come to us for is home defense.”

The FBI reports that the number of background checks required to buy a firearm hit a national one-month record of more than 1.5 million in November and remained strong this month, CNN has reported.

In New Mexico, the number of FBI National Instant Criminal Background checks totaled 10,011 in November, up 14 percent from about 8,800 in November 2010.

Pretty obvious if you ask me - increasing crime from those on drugs looking for an easy mark, fear of the future especially more government restrictions on gun and ammo sales, especially if Obama is re-elected and appoints one or more gun grabbers to the Supreme Court.

How many shotguns should the homeowner have? (Most hold but six rounds.)

No one knows exactly why...

Funny how the newspaper person doesn't follow the news.

Question for NM readers. I own a handgun but don’t have a CC permit. My boss says I need one (he has one). I say I don’t as I can legally have a gun in my house for self-defense and NM law allows me to carry it with me in my vehicle.
What say you?

Think I’ll go ask a reporter to try and get the scoop on why I bought it. LOL!

Wing shooting shotguns are plugged for 3, max of 5. Combat shotguns can go anywhere from 5 to 9 or more.

Any gunowner knows there is no 'how many', but 'how much room is in the safe.'

If you need it for the job, yes. Otherwise, what you stated is true.

Everyone but this writer knows exactly why.

Going gun shopping. What would you all recommend for small, semi-arthritic hands?

That’s fine if you are in your home or your car, but if you encounter a bad guy when you are away from your car, is he going to let you go to your car to get your gun?

The new Keltec KSG shotgun holds 12 rounds. I don’t know if they are in full production yet or not. You can check them out at the Keltec website.

A .38 Special revolver, they don't jamb, your hands may not be strong enough to rack a semi-automatic, and they won't get stronger as you get older. Don't let anyone sell you a revolver without a full hammer. if your hands are semi-arthritic you may have trouble pulling the trigger on a revolver with a shrouded hammer, if you have trouble cocking the hammer with your thumb, you can use your other hand.

Reloading takes too long. You need one of these:
