WASHINGTON—The Justice Department blocked South Carolina's new voter identification law, citing concerns about the law's effect on African-American voters and setting up a new conflict between the Obama administration and Republican-led state governments.

The South Carolina proposal would require voters to provide state-issued or military photo identification in order to cast a ballot. Current law allows voters to use a printed voter registration card as identification.

Under the federal Voting Rights Act, South Carolina must prove that any changes in voting law don't have the effect of discriminating against minorities. The state can either change the law or, more likely, ...

Voting multiple times is a civil right if you are one of Eric Holder’s people.

IIRC, thanks to Bush 43, the Voting Rights Act was extended another 20 years or so.

It is way past time to take the VRA, aka Reconstruction Part II to the Supremes. No d@amn Marxist Attorney General should have the power to ‘eff over the will of the people like this as expressed through their state legislatures.

It doesn’t make a lot of sense. Lots of other states now have voter ID laws in place. I guess this is just an attempt to stop the bleeding.

EBT Cards should have photos on them of the “bearer”.

This would also cut down of some of the corruption in use.

As taxpaying citizens who PAY for them, everyone should contact their congresscritters until someone introduces a law to institute this.

I believe the VRA gives Holder special powers in the southern states...somewhat ironic since it was Democrats who suppressed the black vote in the south.

South Carolina must prove that any changes in voting law don't have the effect of discriminating against minorities.

This cannot go on. All it takes is for one "minority" to say "I don't like it!" Provided of course it's an approved minority.

But what the hell, I'm white. If I want something -- a Rolls, a private jet, a PhD, whatever I want like making professional sports white-only, whatever -- I just dial that secret 800 number that all us whites get at birth.

Eric Holder and his La Raza Lawyer Corps at the DOJ are in full Obama campaign mode.

How many States are being sued over voter ID? How dare the people through their elected reps demand to know who are casting votes! What about DOJ opposition to new Congressional districts? We haven't heard much about ACORN or Black Panthers recently, but I am absolutely positive that tax payer money is still going to these professional election thieves.

“and the marxist in South Carolina”

The problem here is not the Conservative people of South Carolina but the marxist in Washington DC.

This is what happens when a half-black racist is elected President and brings his Bro’s in to help him stay in office.

Dear Gov. Haley,

Now repeat after me, now matter how many times you try to “play nice” (Boeing debacle/compromise) with Obama, they’ll always bite you in the ass in the end.

EBT Cards should have photos on them of the “bearer”.

Holder would argue that that is not enough ID since "everybody know all black folks look alike". So what good would it do? So it is unconstitutional!

I'll bet he might try to argue this way, too!

It took some 6 years of fighting in court to get our Michigan voter ID law enacted but the administration isn’t fighting us on it. However our secretary of state has run into a brick wall on getting help to remove dead and illegal voters from the voter rolls. Neither the INS or Social Security administration will help.

This administration has as its primary goal and objective the codification of a divided America based on “identity groups.” It seeks to legalize divisions, with those groups it favors (ethnic minorities, moslems, people dependent upon the government, illegals) having broader rights and freedoms than those groups it disfavors (white working class, especially males, conservatives, Christians).

My contempt for this administration has reached extreme depths.
