Trump switches voter registration to 'independent'
Politico ^ | Dec. 23, 2011 | MAGGIE HABERMAN

Donald Trump, who recently pulled out of moderating a Newsmax-sponsored GOP debate that only Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum would commit to, has switched his voter registration to "independent," a source confirms.

The move was made yesterday, and will make Trump a registered "blank" — used interchangeably with "registered independent" in New York political parlance — but not right away.

A Board of Elections spokeswoman hasn't responded to a call for comment about when it would take effect, but sources familiar with the city's BoE rules say that Trump missed the cutoff allowing his registration switch to take effect for next year. This means that, while he has filed the paperwork, he can technically still vote in the GOP primary and won't become an independent until after the November 2012 general election.

Trump has not been a lifelong Republican, and in some ways his move mirrors the path that Mike Bloomberg took — Democrat to Republican to independent.

Is he working with Obama? If this is a setup for a third party run, he’s got to be in with O because he’d have to know it would kill our chances.

Heard The Donald on Greta, he is pureass delusional with claims like he’ll take a bunch of nobama’s black vote in a 3rd party run.

Anyone voting for trump is dumber than the 48 actual Paul supporters.

Maybe trump thinks after pushing America into R2, somehow he’ll be able to “lead the new nation”.

Don’t really think he’ll run 3rd party, this is just more PR for anpther TV show.

Oh, Boehner says what we means, alright.

The problem is, what he says changes from hour to hour, and what he means changes on the half-hour.

How the hell did this guy get elected Speaker of the House?

He needs to go.

Yes.. He does.. He thinks that abortion should be a federal issue.. It is not.. States issue..

So why should Abortion be a States Rights issue when the 2nd Amendment is not?
Abortion was not even heard of at the time of the signing of the constution so it was not on the radar of the founders.

But again, why would the most important right, the right to life, not be a federal issue?

I know some VERY conservative people who believe that Trump is the real deal . I’m not as sure , but I know he would make a much better President than Romney , for example . Seems that the people are too brainwashed to grasp that Trump is better than Romney. Many leftists flood the internet with lies about Trump. Notice Ron Paul never shouts anything anti-China? Because he is a communist. Trump is always bashing China. There are many brainwashed Republicans that would never vote outside the party. That is the problem.

Point well taken.

Just as a human being, one instinctively responds to someone who says what they mean and speaks with the courage of their convictions (even if it’s bats**t crazy).

My father once made the darkly cynical observation that Hitler was the only politician who kept his campaign promises....get Germany’s economy going again, solve unemployment, make Germany THE power to be reckoned with in Europe, and do something about all those pesky Jews and Commies. Like my dad said, “That’s why the German people genuinely liked Hitler; he meant what he said, and he said what he meant.” He was a WW2 vet, btw, so he was alive during the time period. Used to tell me a humorous story about watching the LAPD break up riots of the German Bund in downtown LA near the Million Dollar Theater.

I never took Trump to be sincere when he came out of the political woodwork last spring to declare he was a Republican and would be a player in the GOP presidential nomination process.

Now, after just about all the Republican presidential contenders have met with him in an attempt to procure his blessing, and after he has had kind things to say about them, he somehow decides to leave the party.

Be alert for an independent Trump run for the presidency, just like Ross Perot in 1992 and 1996. Perot stealthily helped Clinton beat Bush 41 in '92, and Trump may well be playing the same game to help Obama next year.

I bashed Trump relentlessly from DAY ONE. I called him the P.T. Barnum of politics. I called him a fraud on every issue - pro-abortion, pro-amnesty, donated to Rahm Emanuel and Anthony Weiner. I ridiculed candidates who agreed to be in his "debate". I exposed the sick, former CNN producer of that "debate" who had previously lied about U.S. "atrocities" in Iraq, for which CNN fired him. I warned how his every move was calculated to build credibility for his own 3rd party run at the expense of the GOP candidates, and would get them to kowtow to him at a debate to lower their stature. I denounced his every appearance on Greta, and other shows. I ridiculed Hannity for having him on constantly. I exposed how Trump's entire "fortune" is built on sand and debt, and how he likely had a CASH wealth of around $700 million.

I was ALWAYS bashed by several FReepers, who said "but he's right on (X)(Y)(X)!" "Why should they appear at a debate with Anderson Cooper but not Trump"? (Even Mark Levin parroted that crap) Etc. Etc. Etc.

Well all I can say now is...

Trump has history with that.

Pataki was for expanding Indian gaming in NY, that was bad for AC so Trump bankrolled a third party challenge to Pataki. The man is scum, his only agenda is his own bank account and ego.

That said I sincerely doubt he’s running. He’s doing this for attention. His thinking of running as a Republican was used as leverage to get more money from NBC for his stupid show.

The guy I’m worried about being a third party is Ron Paul.

Gary Johnson may end up as the Libertarian nominee. That wouldn’t be good for Republicans.
