Seen as the front-runner to challenge incumbent president Barack Obama in next year's presidential elections, US Republican president hopeful Newt Gingrich has a history of anti-Islam slurs, who sees Shari`ah a mortal threat to the United States.
“I believe Shari`ah is a mortal threat to the survival of freedom in the United States and in the world as we know it,” Gingrich said in a speech to the American Enterprise Institute in Washington in July 2010and cited by The New York Times.
“I think it’s that straightforward and that real.”
The former speaker of the House of Representatives in the mid-1990s believes in the theory that advocates of Shari`ah are radical Islamists.
"Stealth jihadis use political, cultural, societal, religious, intellectual tools; violent jihadis use violence,” Gingrich said in the speech.
"But in fact they’re both engaged in jihad, and they’re both seeking to impose the same end state, which is to replace Western civilization with a radical imposition of Shari`ah."
In 2010, Gingrich and his wife produced and narrated a film, "America at Risk", about what they say the threat of "radical Islam".
In the film, they discuss what they say the danger of terrorism and Shari`ah against a lurid background of terrorist bombings, bloody victims, wailing sirens and chanting Muslim crowds.
Gingrich had once called for a ban on all mosques near Ground Zero "so long as there are no churches or synagogues in Saudi Arabia."
Shari`ah has come under scrutiny recently in the US, with right-wing campaigners and politicians questioning its role and operating system.
Lawmakers in at least 15 states have introduced proposals forbidding local judges from considering Shari`ah when rendering verdicts on issues of divorces and marital disputes.
In Islam, Shari`ah govern issues in Muslims’ lives from daily prayers to fasting and from to inheritance and marital cases to financial disputes.
The Islamic rulings, however, do not apply on non-Muslims, even if in a dispute with non-Muslims.
'Islamic Terrorism'!
Gingrich has also been critical of president Obama's refusal to label terrorism as "Islamic" or "jihadist".
“The left’s refusal to tell the truth about the Islamist threat is a natural parallel to the 70-year pattern of left-wing intellectuals refusing to tell the truth about communism and the Soviet Union,” Gingrich said.
Administration officials say that labels smear the entire Islamic faith with terrorism.
Gingrich was the front-runner in the Republican race recently, just ahead of former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney.
However, Gingrich's lead has evaporated in national polls amid a barrage of Romney television ads that have cited, among other things, the ethics charges Gingrich faced as House speaker.
Gingrich, who had a reputation in Washington for counter-punching when criticized, has fired back at Romney on occasion, but vowed to continue running a positive campaign.
Gingrich's anti-Islam slurs are not the first by Republican presidential aspirants.
Former candidate Herman Cain had said that he would not appoint a Muslim in his administration.
Cain, who withdrew from the race for the White House, later modified his position by calling for an unconstitutional "loyalty" oath for Muslim appointees.
Republican aspirant Rick Santorum had also describes Islamic Shari`ah as "an existential threat" to America.
US Muslims have been sensing a growing hostility following a hearing presented by Republican representative Peter King on what he described as “radicalization” of US Muslims.
Recently, a Republican Missouri lawmaker described Islam as a disease like polio while another Alaska Rep. branded Muslims as ‘occupiers’ of American neighborhoods.A US survey has revealed that the majority of Americans know very little about Muslims and their faith.

Actually, this is true, and one of the reasons this country is in such grave danger from the threat of Islam.
And not just in the primary. Most general election voters also see radical Islam for what it is.
The Muslims continue along a path right out of the dark ages.
They kill people - and people of their own family - and pass it off as “honor killings.” They persecute people who are not of their religion and customs, and that persecution usually involves murder, and again, they feel that it is justified. If you want to better understand these people, sit down and read some of the horror stories from the Old Testament sometime. They have never embraced the sense of peace and justice that was a gift from Christ. They have no absolutely no understanding of the sense of peace and justice that accompanied that gift and, sadly, they never will. We must shun these people, never accept their barbarous behavior and forever guard against ourselves and our children accepting those behaviors.
Sounds like the right guy for the Presidency to me!
In America our children are taught to view Islam as an enemy that will lie as much as necessary to achieve its goals of global domination.
Even though it may feel like we are armed with nothing more than an icepick against an army of fire ants we can and will eventually survive.

If we deny Islam its religious protections, we would be better positioned to defend America.
Communism (a close cousin of Islam) has no such protections and can be, rightfully, derided as anti-American.

Well, they are. Gingrich's beliefs are rooted in history. The writer of this article is outraged that he articulates the truth.
It seems the more heat Newt gets from articles like this the more I for one, like him. It’s time to call a spade a spade. Romney and the others won’t....
Oh, and by the way, don’t know if anyone has seen Ann Coulter’s article today. I read the first paragraph and stopped. She’s off the wall, gone bonkers.

Newt clearly gets the threat of Islam to the West, better than any of the other candidates. For that alone, he deserves the support of conservatives in this race.
And the reasons for supporting Newt just keep rolling in.
This the main thing Gingrich has going for him. He is right on just about any subject. He is dead on with his comments about Islam.

Agreed. Palin has turned out to be all about Palin and how much money she can rake in for her family. And, she does keep making reallly, really stupid comments like she did last week.

Following 9/11 and their demands that we understand them, the Islamists (political Islam, sharia law advocates) should be the ones sensing "a growing hostility."
But we who are hostile toward political Islam, sharia law advocates must have compassion and understand their fear.
For Japanese Americans had the same fear after Pearl Harbor and FDR relocated huge numbers of them for their own protection -- we can do no less. Yes the ones FDR suspected of spying were interned.

Communism is constitutionally protected under the First Amendment, freedom of speech.
If you’re referring to the Smith Act, it was ruled unconstitutional by the SCOTUS in 1957, though the law is still on the books.
Even if you re-classified Islam as a purely political group, political parties are still protected under the First Amendment.
There’s no need to resort to heavy-handedness in dealing with ideological opposition....the American system has it’s own unique way of ultimately neutralizing any truly radical sociopolitical movements. Why be a follower of Che Guevara when you can just buy a T-shirt with his visage emblazoned on it?
Besides, if you wish to deny Islam religious protections, you would have to either a)amend the Constitution, or b)open up a Constitutional Convention. Amending the Constitution is far easier said then done.....ask the supporters of the ERA. The second course I find distinctly unwise.
If you really want to neutralize Islam.....Americanize it. No greater disaster could befall Islam then for it to be turned into yet another homogenized American pop-culture artifact. Like Kabbala for instance. Get a few brain-dead celebrities to embrace the Americanized, watered-down neo-hippie-dippie version of Islam, and any revolutionary potential it may have will dwindle away to nothing in a generation or two.
As an example, think of what would’ve happened if the Roman Empire had simply made Jesus Christ just another one of the gods in their pantheon; over the course of a century or so, it would’ve likely faded into obscurity as just another sect or mystery religion. By persecuting the early Christians, the ancient Romans inadvertently spurred its growth.

I remember recently reading that Gingrich proposed bringing students from Muslim countries into American universities to teach the ways of democracy. However, I have not been able to find the article in Google.
Most students from poorer countries choose to settle in the US.
