Good questions both.
I’d add, though, that whyile boycotts of a fungible item are in vain overall with respect to cartels, they aren’t with respect to individual competing brands - even if the goods are fungible. So unless Chiquita’s competitors oblige it by private-labelling or some such thing, a boycott could have lots of impact on Chiquita.
Hank
This has to be the craziest astro turf campaign I’ve seen in years.
What a complete and utter failure. What type of failed PR marketing exec would greenlight such a ridiculously idiotic astroturf campaign?
Aw gee shucks, I’m feelin good about teh ‘nucks
For standin up an refusin to kowtow
To the eco-wackos over Kyoto
Oh Canada, glorious and free
Standing on guard and Chiquita free!
The idea may sound funny but I’m all for this boycott. Companies pandering to the eco wack jobs as their marketing strategy ought to be made to feel the pain. No more Chiquita, amorosita!
