Per the tenth amendment. All powers not delegated to the federal government by the constitution are reserved to the states and the PEOPLE. The people have a much better chance of controlling their state and local governments than they do the feds.

And I believe both Paul and Bachmann... and Perry support the constitution AND the tenth amendment.

Nothing wrong with returning all these functions to the states and the people. It’s what the founders intended and what the federales usurped and stole from us since the 1913 progressive coup de tat.

Now, I don’t like the idea of block grants to the states. I think the feds should not be raising revenues for anything other than to pay the costs of their own legal and constitutionally authorized functions. The states and local governments should raise the tax revenues (or finance) the costs of their own programs. No money should flow from individuals or corporations to the federal government and then be parceled or redistributed back to the states after being filtered, filched, and strings attached by the congress.

Also, the federales don’t rule over the states or the people. The federal government was never intended to be that powerful or so huge. Article 1, section 8 enumerates and restricts the feds to about 18 specific items. All else is reserved to the states and the people.

But other than that, I think Newt is on the right track.

The best track, IMHO, would be to repeal the 16th and the 17th and return control over the senators back to the state governments. If they don’t do their jobs, don’t defend the constitution, the state legislators should recall the bastards. And completely neuter and reel in the Fed. Hell, no one knows how much money they create out of thin air or where in the world (literally) it goes. We find out some of it way too late. Congress should put a short leash on these guys or abolish it altogether. The income tax should be strictly a flat tax. Abolish the IRS altogether other than some bean counters and a few knee cappers for the hard cases.

Last time I checked, it wasn’t up to the POTUS to reduce the size of state governments.

I know this is off topic, but...

I agree about Michelle Bachmann...good strong conservative...but her voice pattern is really starting to get annoying! Not as annoying as Obama, but it is getting there. It has the same pattern over and over again that almost verges on sounding whiny.
Don’t get me wrong I could have her as President, but I don’t think I could listen to her any more than I can listen to Obama. I know this is incredibly shallow, but she needs a serious vocal adjustment.

Newt’s running for president, not governor.

As president, he wants to reduce the role of the federal government and return those responsibilities to the states.

Each state would handle those responsilities differently.

Some (like NY and Calif) would probably do more and have bigger agencies than the federal govt did.

Some (like Alabama) would have smaller agencies.

Some (like Utah) would decide that wasn’t even a proper function of the state govt and not implement the agency at the state level at all.

Moving responsibility form the feds to the states means each state will handle it differntly. That’s better than the status quo (where the federal govt does everything) and (more imortantly) that’s the way it was designed to work. States are supposed to be different. That’s why we have states (which is the word for a country) and not provinces (which is the word for a subset of a larger government).

You do realize he’s running for President, executive head of the federal gov’t and not dictator, right? What you allow in your state is on you and you fellow residents. That’s why he talks about “growing citizenship back home” when the federal gov’t is reduced.

You are a broken record. Every thread about Newt you spew your B/S. You are Obama’s best ground guy here on FR.
