Invite John Denver and Friends to Your 2011 Holiday Party

John Denver - Montana Christmas Skies is a great entertainment choice for your holiday happening. A DVD that blends the talents of one of America’s best singer/guitarists, John Denver, his friends Clint Black, Kathy Mattea, Patty Loveless, a delightful children’s choir, with the stark winter beauty of Montana.

Released in 2001, this DVD captures a 1991 CBS television special that showcased John Denver at his folksy best, sharing his love for the wide open skies of Montana, his curiosity about the people who lived amidst the scenic beauty of the Fort Belknap Indian reservation, and his eagerness to bring together a diverse mix of personalities.

John Denver - Montana Christmas Skies contains a fun mix of music ranging from familiar favorites to one of a kind gems. Clint Black, Kathy Mattea and Patty Loveless join John Denver for a rousing sing-along lending their considerable talent, charm and warmth to "Someday Soon," "Christ Child’s Lullaby" and "Christmas for Cowboys." A Native American children’s choir infuses the DVD with charm reinvigorating treasured songs "Jingle Bells" and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer."

Among the wonderful performances, to quote Amazon.Com, "Especially moving is Denver's delivery of the ballad 'I Want to Live.'"

This is a vanity -- sorry -- but I heard "Christmas for Cowboys" tonight. First time in a long time, and it made me nostalgic.

Imagine how wonderful that would be... the music, the cars, NASA!

You got to love his hits “Rocky Mountain High” and “Pacific Ocean Spiral Dive.”

LOL, a ‘pristine’ era

Definitely did not suck... save 8-tracks and unwinding cassettes.

The reminiscing, it burns... seriously, things are so #’d up today, that a rich burning engine is a thing of fresh air.

Did they ever figure out whether that was accidental (as one assumes with JFK Jr), or whether it was a “controlled crash” (suicide)?? Was always wondering.

Not being a Denver fan, those are indeed very nice choices.

IIRC he couldn't reach the lever behind the seat to switch fuel tanks. Suicide was pretty much ruled out. It was more like he didn't check out fully in a homebuilt and was unfamiliar with the controls.

That said and not being a Denver fan for several reasons I admit he did write some really good stuff.

Now as to the type of Christmas song I like...I'll leave out Fatty Claus which is my fav.

Also like Christmas in Prison.

And Merry Christmas From the Family

Of course Traditional Christmas songs are my absolute favs.

“This particular aircraft had an unusual reconfiguration of the fuel selector valve handle, which had been moved from the instrument panel to behind the left shoulder of the pilot. Apparently it also had a sticky O-ring and was hard to move. Both factors may have led to Denver pushing the right rudder pedal when he turned to switch fuel tanks by moving the handle. The aircraft then entered an uncontrolled turning descent: a spiral dive or a spin. Flying at an estimated altitude of 500 feet (150 m), he did not have time to recover.”

Yup, that's what I was tring to remeber. I was doing morning news both the day he died and when the resulst of hte investigation came in. Seems like it didn't help that he was not a very tall guy and had problems reaching things.

Mrs p6 was infatuated with him and made me take her to a concert in the round back in the late 70's. While he put on a good acoustic show it seemed like he had an attitude on stage. Gumpy like he didn't want to be there or something. It was a Maundy Thursday so maybe that had something to do with it.

Oh, and it was in Pittsburgh...

Never heard that song. My favorite Christmas song by John Denver was the 12 days of Christmas with the Muppets.

Being a young sailor in the USN at the time, I was loathe to admit to ANYONE that I might have liked any John Denver music...or Carpenters. Nobody would admit to it.

Now, as an adult, I can like whatever I want...and I like both of them...:)

If somebody starts a ‘Bee Gee’s “Stayin’ Alive’ Does anybody love this disco song?” thread, then I’ll know we’re at the point of no return and the destruction is complete.
