Cokie Roberts Thinks Rick Perry has Still Got a Chance

Rick Perry may be stuck near the bottom of the polls among those vying to become the Republican nominee for president, but he might still enjoy a second act, according to veteran journalist Cokie Roberts.

“He’s got the resources and nobody else does,” she said during a press conference before the “A Conversation with a Legend” fundraiser for the MD Anderson fundraiser in San Antonio Tuesday. “If we do see Newt Gingrich self-destruct, which I think is highly likely, and Romney continue to sit there at 23, 25 percent, then people will start looking around again. Roberts, a political commentator for ABC News and National Public Radio declared that it’s too late for anyone else to enter the race, so Perry could get a second look from a lot of Republican voters, although she did say she felt that scenario was “unlikely.”

I’d rather agree with Rush’s and Hannity’s assessment yesterday and be positive than be negative and hold out for some great white knight that doesn’t exist. We hold out for that person at our own peril.

Poor Cokie—Just can’t get beyond her red colored glasses.

That said, her shilling for Perry confirms what most of us know—Perry is a RINO and the lefties wouldn’t mind him running on the Pubbie ticket. If he wins the presidency demrats also win.

Obviously, Marxist demrats know that if they can’t get the loser and Usurping Marxist Onada to drop out of the pres. race they desperately need a RINO to contain the overall damage to their agenda. Perry, Romney or Newty will fill the bill nicely.

This also explains the desperate attempt by Marxist demrats and their RINO useful idiots to lynch Cain. If Santorum or Bachmann got any traction they would be savaging them as well.

shining white knight: That could be Santorum if our little primary voters were more open to “change.”

Perry should be in the race because for whatever reason he infuriates the Left.

That means they think he can win against Obama.

Gingrich is not electable, hence Clinton and others are blowing him kisses in the media.

Perry-Cain with Ron Paul as Secretary of Treasury would be the right mix to turn the current mess around.

They should prosecute government insiders, former or departing government officials and their accomplices and abettors in banking for starters and simultaneously launch historical tax reform, entitlement reform and health law repeal measures.

Cokie is from a steadfast Democrat family, but originally anti-Long in Louisiana politics.

A second act for Perry? Try a 5th, 6th or 7th act for him. He’s got more acts than a production of Hamlet.

Cokie Roberts, ABC News and NPR commentator, declared that it’s too late for anyone else to enter the race, so PAC-rich Perry could get a second look..........while saying she felt that scenario was “unlikely.”

Several recent contests show that an unlimited campaign war chest does not always win the day.

Perry is a RINO

There are in fact a few RINOs in this race, but Rick Perry is not one of them as measured by any objective standard.

Your comment "This also explains the desperate attempt by Marxist demrats and their RINO useful idiots to lynch Cain. If Santorum or Bachmann got any traction they would be savaging them as well," reveals all we need to know about you, for that is EXACTLY what they did to Rick Perry, and you have swallowed it whole.

“I’d rather agree with Rush’s and Hannity’s assessment yesterday and be positive than be negative”

I didn’t hear Hannity, but El Rushbo is right, ANY of the current Republican candidates will beat the jug-earred punk next year. Barry is more loathed now than Carter was when Reagan wiped the map with him. Even with a billion dollar warchest, 0bama will be toast and will be toxic to other Dims down the line.

The point for conservatives to take to heart is, with almost any Republican with body heat above room temperature electable, why not pick the most conservative?

I like to collect Perry gaffes the way some people collect diamonds. They are tiny nuggets of hilarity!

I hope one day to see a Rick Perry blooper dvd.

SO? You and I as Conservatives know it's BS and a lot of Libertarians/Independents like Clinton. I see it as only helping.

She really does not think this. She just needs Rick to stay in the race to help develop a plurality for the medias chosen opponent - Mitt Romney.

Gingrich is sometimes smart, sometimes very foolish.

But he is a good debater.

But no matter how smart or how good he speaks, he does not have ‘likeability’ broad enough to win.

Clinton was blowing him kisses to mock him, not to endorse him so that independents would vote for him. Clinton blowing kisses was a stunt to show that the dem leadership would love to have Newt nominated because it would ensure the dems keep the Whitehouse.

The evidence is clear, the MSM has not attacked Newt en masse because they know he is easy to beat up on. He looks like a fat cat Republican at a time when the country needs a fresh face and voice.

Newt was Speaker material, not presidential material.

I’m voting for Rick Perry. I really think he has a second chance.

Gingrich is not gonna happen and he will never attract independents or swing voters.

I hope others will join me in rooting for Rick.
