ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. —

A woman shot and killed a home invader after he opened fire and shot her in the arm, according the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies in Apopka said two armed men broke into a garage of a home on 18th Street and Leroy Court at about 12:30 a.m. on Friday and demanded money from the woman's boyfriend, Lionel Griffin.

This is a great story. Bad guys follow the family home from Black Friday shopping at Walmart early Friday morning.

Bad guys pistol whip the dad hold a gun on the kids. Mom get her own gun and shoots/kills one bad guy. Other bad guy flees - where he is met outside by a NEIGHBOR and HIS gun.

Read the article and watch the short clip. Pretty funny stuff.

My local paper says 'inflation's keeping crime down'.... Yeah right. They say criminals don't have to pay as much for 'stuff' and that's causing crime statistics to drop. LOL - the real reason crime's going down is because citizens are fighting back.

The new cost of crime is death - not a prison cell with gang banger friends and four squares...

“The family said they believe they may have been targeted because they had returned from Walmart where they spent a lot of money. They had just unloaded several gifts from their vehicle.”

This is a serious MO. I almost had the same thing happen when coming home from Best Buy after buying a laptop. When you pay, there is no bag, so the whole world can see you walk into the parking lot with it. I get to my house and there is a car dead on my tail. I caught it just in time and drove by my house, but he kept on me. After a doubling back, I decided to head to the police station, and he dropped off. Of course I filed a report anyway.

So watch out...it’s an easy crime for them these days.

This is a serious MO.

Yes, it is. A few years back we actually had people getting tailed on their way back from the local GUN RANGE! Bad guys would wait till the victim would pull into his driveway then jump out of their own car and rob the victim at gun point. Of his own guns.

Situational awareness at this time of year especially, is paramount.

I see your wife and my ex-wife must hang out with the same crowd. :-)

“A few years back we actually had people getting tailed on their way back from the local GUN RANGE!”

Yipe!!! Hadn’t heard that, but it makes perfect sense.

the real reason crime's going down is because citizens are fighting back.

And and the trend should continue as more states are giving their citizens the freedom to protect themselves.

North Carolina's new Castle doctrine takes effect Dec. 1st.

That is a horrifying story, BobL! I am so glad that you saw something suspicious. Once again, it pays to be aware of your surroundings (even driving) at all times. I do know it is recommended NOT to place big ticket item boxes on the curb or in the recycling box (especially after Christmas). I don’t know how many times that I have seen a computer box, XBox box etc... the first trash pick up day after Christmas.

It is a semi-rural area of older homes. Not the greatest mainly because of the area around it but there are certainly worse neighborhoods in Apopka.

Just think, this wouldn’t have happened in NYC or Chicago. You would have had a dead dad, three dead or wounded kids, a girlfriend raped and beaten and probably dead and a couple of wounded or dead neighbors who came out of their houses to investigate.

One reason I always have a loaded gun handy on my way back from the range.

Thank goodness she had the constitutional right be armed and the courage to rescue her family, even while she was injured. What a brave mom.

Very bad headline at first glance: "Mom defending home shot, killed..." Looks very wrong. Why not "Mom defending home shoots, kills..."

Most headlines are written in the present tense to bring currency and relevance to a lot of news that is 6-24 hours old. It's odd that this news outfit sought to portray a person defending her home as becoming a victim of her right to defense. Am I reading too much into this?

Thanks. As far as boxes go...EXACTLY. I go through a difficult process of breaking up and folding boxes, and then putting them in plastic bags, before disposing of them. One of my neighbors had them fully intact, as if he was DISPLAYING them...it’s mind-boggling how unaware people can be.
