(Reuters) - Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords served a Thanksgiving meal on Thursday to Air Force personnel in her first constituent event since she was shot in the head in January, her office said.
Giffords dished out turkey with tongs as she stood between Brigadier General Jon Norman and her husband Mark Kelly, said Giffords' spokesman Mark Kimble.
The event at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base was expected to draw more than 400 people, mostly U.S. Air Force personnel, retired service members and their families.
Giffords was shot on January 8 at an event for constituents at a Tucson supermarket. College dropout Jared Loughner has been charged in the shooting spree that killed six people and wounded 13, including Giffords.
She is living in Houston, where she is receiving therapy. She arrived in Tucson on Tuesday to spend the holiday with friends and family.

I do not wish her ill, but I do not believe the people around her are doing anything but allowing her public appearances to be used for public relations, not gpvernance.
And the press, the so-called objective press, doesn't seem interested in the governing part of the job of a representative.

I think it’s a very sensitive subject to talk about whether her constituents are really being represented in Congress as she undergoes her recuperation.
Yes, her serving Thanksgiving dinner at the base is a photo op and a publicity event.
The media does not want to delve into whether she is capable of doing her job in Congress.
“Sorry folks, but I really think this is exploitation of this woman. And the people of her district are not being represented in Congress.”
Agreed. My exact thoughts also.
These people elected a pro-abortion Democrat. What such voters believe is essentially emotionally-driven and has little to do with sentient human thinking.
I think it sucks, but I thought she was a Pelosi-puppet before her head injury...just more so now.
The Dims don't care if she can vote, due to the Repub majority in the House. As it is, they can use her for advertising purposes, and don't have to worry about a Repub grabbing the seat.
If she runs again, it's quite possible she could win on an emotion-based vote in this district. Lots of flaming libs. The mediots can do a good job of hiding any cognitive problems she might have, by issuing press releases from her office, and by telling us what she thinks and says, without sticking cameras and mikes in her face. Accompany that with archive videos of her smiling and glad-handing with supporters, and there you go.
It’s not about serving the district....They are keeping her name in the news for a reason. I think she will run (and probably win) the Senate seat up for grabs in 2012 purely on emotional voters.
It’ll be even worse next year.
I fully expect the ‘rats and the ‘rat-run media to drag her around the campaign trails, prop her up on the stage and let her utter a few words and revive the false-storyline that it was the Republicans that caused her to be shot.
Who knows whether or not she will even be able to completely understand what they are doing to her.
She is the same kind of political whore as the Missouri Carnahans, who bootstrapped a plane crash into political offices for all of them and millions of stimulus dollars into their pockets.
She barely won this last go-around, and that was only after a week of counting votes. We all know how the Left makes ballots magically appear. Her opponent won on Election Day itself, by something like 56%.
She refused to have a debate until after the early ballot cutoff, and those are the ballots that eventually let her win. Again, barely, and only because the Pravda press had always anointed her as a saint.
If she or her puppet-master jerk-of-a-husband had any integrity, she would resign.
I have known several people who recovered well from brain injuries but it was a long process, with some set-backs along the way.
The other thing I wonder about is whether or not this advanced treatment she is receiving is available to GIs with similar injuries. I hope it is.
They even moved her office out of the way, Pima and Swan was too central and visible. We’d be able to tell that she was never in her office or in her district (like most of us already knew even before January).
Her office does all the fake Facebook posts too, to make it seem like she’s the one writing. Then, they paste together audio tapes to make it seem like she’s speaking in paragraphs again.
The whole thing is one big hoax, and the idiot leftists who live in this district have lapped it all up.
Oh, for crying out loud....and later this afternoon, she's going to be spoonfed herself.
I doubt it. Their ghost writer wrote that Giffords has seen other people, including vets, dropped by their insurance, at the hospital where she is.
Anyone who were coached and trained daily, the way she is, could have a chance to sound as good as she does (relatively).
She had zero compassion or concern when the vast majority of the people in her district (based on phone calls, town halls, protests, and emails) opposed Communist Care. She, the elite, knew much better than we did.
Now, she's receiving the finest care in the world. It's the kind none of the rest of us (mere taxpaying peasants) will ever, ever, ever get -- since she helped corral us into DeathCare.

Exactly. The libs are trying to remind their voters that Republicans are an existential threat to them. Nevermind that it's a bogus claim.
Wasn't she living in Houston before the shooting? How much time did she reside in the District before? I recall reading she only came back to her district for these street corner town meetings.
Has anyone not in her inner circle seen her talk, or think through an answer?
