Thanks for highlighting that point. I suspect the internet trend goes back to the last decade too, perhaps even to the mid 1990s. As access to and use of the internet became more widespread.

There is a fair bit one can read into the stats the guy has provided. So, “new” trend relative to what? How does he define “new” trend?

Although in the next sentence he does say: “”We’ve seen a major change in how people become associated with extremist groups in the past 20 years, and we need to adapt.”
