The real scandal in the accusations against Herman Cain is the corruption of the law, the media and politics.
Let's start with the law. Some people may think the fact that the National Restaurant Association reportedly paid $45,000 to settle a claim made by one of its employees against Mr. Cain is incriminating.
Most of us are not going to part with 45 grand without some serious reason. But that is very different from the situation of an organization in the present legal climate.
The figure $45,000 struck a chord with me because, some years ago, my wife who is an attorney was fervently congratulated when her client had to pay "only" $45,000 in a jury award when the plaintiff was demanding a million dollars, in a case that was as frivolous a lawsuit as you could find.
The person who was suing was a drunk driver, whose car went out of control and slammed into a tree. After the sheriff's deputies arrested her, she sued them on dubious charges, and the sheriff's department was glad it had to pay "only" $45,000.
The department was painfully aware of the uncertainty about what ruinous costs a jury might impose on the deputies.
The real scandal goes far beyond the case of Herman Cain and his accusers. The real scandal is that the law allows people to impose heavy costs on others at little or no cost to themselves. That is a perfect setting for legalized extortion.

Well...
the law IS an ass....
Shhh...
It is a big secret.
Excellent analysis!

The rookie Hussein can't afford to have that split.
The Rookie Hussein (RH) needs a race war to win and he is terrified of Cain.
Nice to see that Dr. Sowell reads my comments on this site (LOL).
As I’ve said before, this crap all broke just as Cain was starting to hit on abortion being a genocide in the black community. He was pointing out that the abortion rate for blacks was 5 times as high as for whites. This one issue could SEVER black support to the Democrats. They know it, which is why they’re gambled to the extent of trying to use the media to convince the TEA PARTY to not vote for Cain. It was very high risk, but they had no choice.
If Cain became the nominee, and broke (or at least weakened) the Democrat hold on blacks, we’re looking at the END OF THE DEMOCRAT PARTY as an equal force to Republicans, as they will get decimated at all levels of government, without a solid black vote.
They MUST take out Cain, and we must not let that happen.
The guy is right.
Anything under 6 figures is much ado about nothing.
Very well said
Any analysis of the female vote - both black and white?
Thomas Sowell is the best
This is what Dr Sowell’s wife said more or less
TORT REFORM.
I am beginning to see something. Why is Hussein so afraid of Cain.
BTTT!!!
Eek - I just remembered that 45 is Herman Cain’s magic number ...
“Any analysis of the female vote - both black and white?”
I will say that they used up the shock value in trying to take Cain out now. So I think for the general election, these types of charges will be ignored, and there still may be a backlash as Tea Party people will get more and more angry.
As to white females, I think it will break the Reagan way. Cain is very much pro-life, so ugly, single, feminists will not vote for him. The happy, pretty, married women will support him. In the end, he might break even with women, while doing great with men.
It’s a tough call with black women, as we typically don’t lump them with the feminists, and they have their own set of problems. The biggest of which is that black men are, generally, useless - either they’re in jail, drugged/ganged out, or fathering kids all over. Cain may just reach those women and, essentially, let them know that he’s going to help black men clean up their act. They just may like him for that.
Didn't we get moveon.org as a result.
My, oh, my, the double standards and hypocrisy is there for the whole world to see.
