Bonfire Night, probably. Used to be bonfires lighted all over the country, now it seems to be fireworks.

That papist! He never stops causing trouble.

Seriously, very sad story. Go back to bonfires.

no it was always fireworks as well. I remember as a kid we were allowed to buy them for about a month before bonfire night. we’d make an effigy of guy fawkes and haul it around town asking folks for a “penny for the guy”. the proceeds would be used to by fireworks with. this was in the 70s. I don’t know if it’s still done

It is, but it is becoming much much rarer. The powers that be, for a variety of reasons, want to get rid of Bonfire night/guy fawkes night. Slowly, inexorably, they are doing away with it. At this rate they can safely abolish it in - oh - I’d say about twenty years.

Utter nonsense. Just part of the war on November 5th celebrations.

Are they sure that the victims were not watching the fireworks
and texting about it while driving.

well that sucks, I grew up in Warwickshire and remember it as being a great outlet for youthful stupidity. I encouraged both my sons to have that kind of fun but to exercise reasonable caution. they know the safe use of firearms and how much black powder to put in a golf ball mortar without fragmenting the golf ball.

How amazing! I grew up in Warwickshire too, and I can testify too as to the outlet it provided for young boys!

As a kid we use to hide down the embankment of a road and toss smoke bombs up onto the street, then run back into the woods to watch the excitement as drivers would slow down, swerve around the smoke, etc. Luckily it was 30 mph or so with good visibility otherwise so folks had time to slow down, etc.

Of course we weren’t thinking of that at the time. Glad there wasn’t a highway nearby or we would have tossed them onto it just as easily! (Stupid kids).
