Anybody heard why Perry and Romney still refuse to participate in a similar debate? It’s in Texas, so Perry doesn’t have that much of an excuse.

I think Perry was against debates before he was for debates, when this one was scheduled ;)

This is far better a debate format for two people who can’t stand each other. Otherwise, it an academic exercise.

Wow, have you ever watched a L-D debate? It is a brilliant format for intelligent people to point out and hone their agreements and differences and the reasons for those differences without the "gotcha" moments. If they act like they "can't stand each other," they come across as shrill, childish, and petty. If all you want is a show, watch wrestling.

If I could pass one election law, it would be that the major party candidates had to participate in at least six hours of televised L-D debates. That would fix many of the problems with campaign finance, MSM favoritism, etc.

I suspect it’ll be more like a constructive discussion between two adults

It will be nice to see adults finally discussing our problems and solutions.

These two like each other. That’s why I think it’s only an academic debate.

This debate will reveal weather or not Cain is a serious candidate, we know Newt is.

This is a great idea... and instead of that argumentative gaggle formation we’ve seen thus far, the top six candidates should pair up and have a round-robin series of mano-a-mano debates like these. THIS is how to get at the specific policy issues.

That “debate” format currently in use is in effect, useless.

This will be an opportunity for Cain to move forward from this week’s nonsense.

Additionally, his campaign manager needs to go.

I like both, but seems like Newt would be awfully hard to beat in this format.

Newt would be, but Cain has the underdog's "advantage," in that he only needs to hold his own. Frankly, I think they'll both benefit from it.

Newt and Herman have been close friends for the better part of 20 years. There is no animosity between them. In addition, Newt just stood up for Herman by attacking the media on the sexual harassment thing. A classy move no other candidate considered. The debate will be cordial based on what I’ve read.
