Karl Rove and others circle wagons to (try to) save the GOP

Karl Rove has been rather chatty of late. He’s taken a hammer to Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) over the birther nonsense and to Herman Cain for basic unpreparedness. MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell thought Rove was “trying to circle the wagons around Mitt Romney as an inevitable nominee.” While I saw where he was coming from, I had a different take. Rove isn’t circling the wagons around Romney. He’s circling the wagons around the Republican Party as a legitimate political party in the United States.

Rove is not alone in this endeavor.

If they do manage to force Romney down our throats, and Palin/Trump form a 3rd Party run because of it (as is the word on the proverbial street), I’ll go with Palin/Trump.

One of the things I like about Cain, Perry, Bachman, Gingrich, and Santorum is that none of them come from blue-blood families.

I'm with you! One of the things that really hurt George Bush was he would not get down in the trenches and fight if he thought it demeaned his office. He proposed a lot of good things that didn't go anywhere because he wouldn't fight. Also, he refused to respond to a lot of the garbage that was said about him and in the end those negatives became the perception.

We need a POTUS who has core beliefs he will fight for even if the Pubs control Congress.

Other than Romney we will be okay with just about any of the candidates. I think Perry is the guy, but I would be comfortable with Bachmann, Santorum, even Paul. Cain & Gingrich I'm not so sure about.

Someone on an earlier thread said that if Romney got the nod, that Palin and Trump would form a 3rd Party. Hey, I’m down for it.

I've always argued in favor of changing the party from within, but for the POTUS why not vote 3rd party. Romney supported everything I'm against when he was in power. I can't and won't vote for him.

At this point, I will vote for the strongest candidate from the GOP field who is not named Mitt Romney. Defeating Romney is now more important to me that defeating Obama.

To add to the fire, it was under the Bush administration that most of the forensic accountants that where at the FBI that watch much the domestic side where moved to the hunting down terrorist funds and such. Not bad to be sure, but what isn't said that when it came time for the request to replace them it fell on deft ears in that administration(don't know who made the decision but someone did consciously made it). There where no watch dogs to prevent them or put on the breaks to the no doc loans before that sector drew to the point which would have massive ramifications for our economic system.

There was massive corruption there. There is massive corruption in the current administration. There was massive corruption in the Clinton administration. And with each one the corruption is up a notch or two from the previous one. The other thing to note is that the people that get into there administrations from the financial sector (the extremely large firms, everyone else is on there own) seam to have the same disposition. Get in bed with the politicians to 1. protect there interest from what ever the politician might do to it, and 2. profit on it through the influence and at tax payers expense.

I feel like you, wish I had voted for Buchanan in 2000 but was warned we had to have GWB to “save the republic.” Not that Pat could get any votes of course, but I would have felt better about myself. And, yes, I generally disagree with Pat on the Middle East.

Of course, Rove’s real choice is Jebbie, but Romney is a good placeholder for the socialists in the GOP.

What is meant by "legitimate political party in the United States" is, "willing participant in the ruling coalition".

This is what the battle for the GOP is about. The majority of GOP voters do not accept any of the premises of the ruling coalition. All of our "leaders" do.
