WASHINGTON (AP) — Army 1st Lt. Ashley White died on the front lines in southern Afghanistan last weekend, the first casualty in what the Army says is a new and vital wartime attempt to gain the trust of Afghan women.

White, like other female soldiers working with special operations teams, was brought in to do things that would be awkward or impossible for her male teammates. Frisking burqa-clad women, for example.

Her death, in a bomb explosion in the Taliban heartland of Kandahar, underscores the risks of placing women with elite U.S. special operations teams working in remote villages.

All of theirs are not worth one of ours.

Less linguistics and more ballistics.

Ashley White...sooner or later the Holder DOJ was going to kill her anyway.

Lord, please forgive me for that.

They are so unworthy of our magnificent warriors.

WhoTF cares whether Afghan women hold us in high esteem. I imagine they hate us, just like their men.

Lt. Ashley White is a heroine, and gave the maximum sacrifice for her country. We need to bring all the troops home now, so no more sacrifices are made for the ungrateful.

I really enjoyed what I perceived to be the inherent joy in the Yahoo article. Like- great now our women can die for this wonderful cause. I would like to be reminded of what this war is about, I thought it was a war on terror, if not let’s bring our warriors home.

Terribly sad.

Women should not serve in any combat/frontline role.

I remember reading somewhere that when a nation uses women in combat that nation won’t survive. But I think that Israel is an exception. I don’t think the US needs women in combat. But I guess if it’s available to us and we want to engage in it, it’s our choice.

I agree that Israel has no choice. But here in America we are privileged in that we have the ability to protect our women and children - they don’t need to be put in danger.

Ultimately, we’re not there to civilize the Afghan people or make them democratic. We’re there to kill terrorists. Think of Afghanistan as a vast hunting preserve where there’s a 24-hour-a-day 365-day-a-year open season on Taliban and al Qaeda operatives. On the minus side, we take some casualties. On the plus side, we serve warning to anyone thinking of pulling another 9/11 that he will spend decades hiding out from us while his family and friends are killed. Our troops also get to keep their Injun-fighting skills sharp. Here’s John Bolton’s take on Karzai’s gaffe:

I think this is part of the culture that he can say one thing to another person and the precise opposite to another and believe that he can get away with it. It’s one reason why we, the United States, are not going to reform Afghanistan, its culture or its government in our lifetime, and that shouldn’t be our objective. We shouldn’t think we’re going to fundamentally change the country.

But even more importantly, to understand we’re not there to benefit Hamid Karzai. A lot of people say, “Oh, how can he be so ungrateful after all the help we’ve given him?” It’s true we’ve benefited him and the Afghan people, but this is a fundamental political point. We’re there to protect American interests. As an incident of that, we may benefit the Afghans, but we’re not there to make them a better people, a happier place to live. We’re there to advance our own interests, and that’s why President Karzai really needs to have his hat handed to him.

So this culture of saying one thing to one side, another thing to another side, a third thing to the third side and thinking you can get away with it is really revealed here in its full splendor.

But it brings — should bring us back to the fundamental. We’re there to destroy the Taliban and al Qaeda, to make sure they don’t take over Afghanistan again. The kind of government Afghanistan has obviously is a factor in that, but our making a nice, sweet, pretty, representative government in Afghanistan with Hamid Karzai as president is not our objective. Our objective is to destroy the Taliban and al Qaeda.

I agree completely..!

Remember the “Human Terrain” lady last year? Some dude threw a bucket of acid all over her —got her super, super well. And then lit her ON FIRE or something horrible.

“Nation building” is more feel-good BS —an attempt to turn military people into social workers.

SOUND NIFTY BUT IT’S B.S.

Nation Building is done by NATIONALISTS —that’s people who LIVE in that hell-hole...

SEE? Check it out! And she was nice, and super pretty, and she DIED:

------------------------------

occurred on November 4th when Ayala was on a foot patrol in the village of Chehel Gazni, with teammate Paula Loyd (pictured, right). Loyd, a social scientist, approached Abdul Salam, who was carrying a fuel jug. He said he had bought it, to fuel up his motorcycle. They started talking about the price of gas. Suddenly, the man doused Lloyd in a flammable liquid and set her on fire, court documents recount.

Engulfed in a ball of flame large enough to force those near her to involuntarily back away, Paula Loyd screamed in agony as the children that had surrounded her ran away. In the several seconds following the attack, no one could get near enough to Ms. Loyd to help her. Panicked, Ms. Loyd ran around briefly before those near her pulled her to the ground. One of the platoon medics tried to put the fire out with dirt, ultimately grabbing Ms. Loyd by her foot and dragging her into the nearby drainage ditch to douse the flames. By the time the fire was extinguished, all of Ms. Loyd’s clothing had been burned off and only her helmet and body armor remained. Medical personnel would later determine that Ms. Loyd suffered second and third- degree burns over more than 60% of her body.

Ayala chased Salam down, tackled him to the ground, and restrained him with plastic cuffs. ”After about 10 minutes,” according to an Army Criminal Investigation Division affidavit, “a soldier approached the location where Ayala had Salam detained and informed the personnel in the area that Loyd was burned badly. Ayala pushed his pistol against Salam’s head and shot Salam, killing him instantly.”

My brother texted me because I posted an article on my facebook about one of the Rangers that was killed; it was his 14th deployment. This is what he said, “That Army Ranger with 14 deployments was with LT White (also killed that day in same incident). I know her from the 30th brigade (NC Nat’l Guard, with which he went to Iraq) deployment in Iraq. She worked in charlie med. And I just saw her at Bragg this summer. Small world. She was a tough chick. I didn’t know her on a personal level more so just the casual conversation. We mainly knew each other from running. We used to run in the brigade competitions. She was fast as s**t.”

RIP LT. White, SFC Domeij, and PFC Horns.
