The scary truth about voting machine hacking risk (exclusive video)

By David Gewirtz | October 23, 2011, 9:28pm PDT

Summary: In this exclusive interview, ZDNet’ Government’s David Gewirtz sits down with Dr. Jon Warner of Argonne National Laboratories for a deep dive into voting machine hacking.

A few weeks ago, I wrote a column here on ZDNet Government entitled, Four outrageous political stories that will make you scream.

In it, I discussed a number of outrages, but one in particular caught my eye: research by the scientists at Argonne National Labs showing the ease at which voting machines could be hacked. This is an issue of great concern, because free and reliable voting is at the core of every democracy.

Voting, essentially, is democracy.

After I published the article, Stephen McGregor of Argonne contacted me and offered me the opportunity to talk with Dr. Jon Warner, the scientist who conducted the study and who came up with the startling conclusions.

What follows is that interview, and it’s both fascinating and freaky. I also want to send a special shout-out of thanks to Jon for his great patience in the process. This was the maiden voyage of the studio I’ve been working on over at ZDNet’s DIY-IT and Jon was quite patient while some extra fiddling and tuning was required.

Here then is ZDNet Government’s exclusive interview with Dr. Jon Warner of Argonne National Labs. It’ll make your hair curl.

TOPICS: Government; Miscellaneous; Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: ballots; votefraud; votingmachins
Since Argonne Labs is so close to Chicago, it is 'up close and personal' on voting machine hacking. The video is a little geeky, so wear your propeller-equipped beanie.

I’d like to have a dollar for every time I have written that until we go back to precinct voting booths, and human ballot counting, there is no way we can get an accurate ballot count! Computers are programmed to do what the government, election boards, want! NO MORE VOTE BY MAIL! hUMAN COUNTING OF PAPER BALLOTS! It’s up to the people to insist on these changes.

Dots to connect here.

See my post from Sept 20th

“Leftist Talk Radio host Norman Goldman ask listeners to rig election”

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/2781296/posts

For weeks following my post he has been asking his listeners and someone he calls “Anonymous” to rig the election computers. That’s right, asking his listeners to commit a felony right on the airwaves.

I did not get what he meant by “Anonymous” right away but now it all makes sense. You all have seen the strange V for Vendata mask in nearly every news shot of the protest. That is who “Anonymous” is. Google WE ARE LEGION: ANONYMOUS and connect the dots for yourself.

We need to ensure that voters are citizens and even more important to ensure that our vote counts. It isn’t rocket science but why have both Parties resisted eliminating these hackable voting machines. That makes me wonder if the plan is make citizens think their vote counts but it is really at the discretion of the governing class.

I favor paper ballots being hand counted individually and independently by representatives of both parties at each voting precinct, and use of a purple thumb of indelible ink to prevent duplicate voting. Many individual precincts counting their own are much less likely to be tampered with than consolidated entities, just like the press. When votes are consolidated electronically into a black box that can be hacked, our democracy is threatened. Timely reporting is not as important as honest voting.

Creating honest voting should be an easy no-brainer for both Parties but it has languished. Why?

In addition to my post #2, the ballots must be paper ballots. No voting machines!

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."

I’ve seen discussions where the exit polling data in the USA no longer matches with the election results, and that’s a bad omen. Our media no longer uses it. Why? Yet exit polling is supposedly the gold standard used by the UN and US to validate whether elections are honest in other third world countries. This should tell us our elections are already rigged.

I’m starting to lean towards supporting popular vote instead of electoral college, and the all for one vote because it makes rigging the vote too easy. They only need to rig certain states.

I thought Jimmah Carter was the self appointed knight of fair elections worldwide. Where’s our savior?

There’s been an awful lot about this vote machine hacking going around the web of late.

I’m been thinking, since the odds are better than decent an (R) will be the next Prez, is this simply groundwork for declaring the (R) win to be the result of hacking so the leftists can undermine the next 4-8 years like they attempted with 41 and the dangling chad debacle.
