Gov. Bobby Jindal shows strength across Louisiana in re-election landslide

Gov. Bobby Jindal rolled to an easy re-election Saturday, defeating nine little-known and under-financed candidates in a record-setting landslide. Based on incomplete returns, Jindal had about 66 percent of the vote, eclipsing the 62.31 percent open-primary era victory margin Democrat Edwin Edwards tallied to oust then-Gov. David Treen in the 1983. It also came on a day when turnout was considerably lighter than the 46.6 percent who voted in the 2007 statewide race, then the smallest turnout in the open gubernatorial primary system that began in 1975.

His margin was so overwhelming that Jindal was able to deliver his victory speech a little more than 45 minutes after polls closed at 8 p.m., arriving on stage at the Baton Rouge Renaissance hotel in the company of LSU football coach Les Miles, whose team had just defeated Auburn, 45-10.

"Every time I run for governor the LSU Tigers win the national championship," Jindal told the jubilant crowd. "I'm not putting any pressure on them. I'm just saying."In a more serious vein, Jindal, who recently turned 40, said that "I am truly humbled, honored by the privilege you have bestowed on me."

Jindal's showed strength across the state, getting even 40 percent of the vote in heavily Democratic New Orleans.

BTW, Kentucky has a Governor race, and other races, November 8th and all signs show a GOP loss. Seems the Rep is a flawed candidate.

This is a very big deal - and yet there was not a peep from MSM (or anybody else) that the election was even happening.

This is (as Rush says) journalistic malpractice.

Thank God for Bobby Jindal. We need more like him.

Actually having nine opponents is not a good thing. Louisiana does not have primaries so the election is the primary. You have to win with 50% of the vote in La. So in other words if you only get 49% you have to have a run off with the next leading vote getter. Sometimes these run offs do not work out so well, just ask William "cold cash dollar Bill" Jefferson.

If all the states were like this we probably would not have Al Franken in the senate.

Katrina is on its way and Louisiana and New Orleans are enclaves of safe Democrat majorities.

Fast forward a few months. Everything is Bush’s fault. Fast forward a year or two. Everything is Bush fault.

Fast forward to 2007. The Democrat governor of Louisiana during Katrina decides to not run for reelection - because, as the LameStreamMedia refused to report, she could not win; and the people elect Conservative, child of immigrants, Republic Bobby Jindal. Little note or celebration given by the media to the fact that the people of Lousiana knew more about what went wrong in Louisiana than the media, and voted for real change with Republican Jindal.

Fast forward to 2011. Republican Jindal reelected in Landslide. Of course the media wants to say as little as possible.

It goes against their mantra of blaming Bush for everything. It demonstrates their ignorance and bias over just what the people of Louisiana now. Their own leaders, not Washington, failed them during Katrina.
