California commits business suicide ( Cap and trade )
watts up with that? ^ | October 21, 2011 | Anthony Watts

A mass exodus of business and jobs out of California will be the likely result of this madness. From the San Franscisco Chronicle:

Free and paid credits

Businesses that emit more carbon dioxide than is allowed under the law will have to use “allowances” – or credits – to make up for the difference. The allowances will be mostly free when the program starts in a little more than two months, but eventually businesses will have to purchase credits in an auction – a sort of penalty for exceeding the limit. The board’s major action on Thursday was to finalize how credits will be allocated.

The opposition from the industrial sectors, like glass manufacturers and oil refineries, strongly objected to the initial requirement that forces these businesses to pay for 10 percent of their credits. They said paying for the allowances – one previous idea was that they be free – will be crippling as businesses in other states and countries will have a competitive advantage.

Higher water rates

Multiple representatives of water agencies, mainly in Southern California, also told the board that because the regulation covers their energy usage, water rates would increase.

The cost will be about $2.50 per year per household, said air board spokesman Stanley Young, explaining that utilities are covered by the law because of the electricity used in moving water from Northern California to Southern California.

The air is so clean in California that businesses can see past the state line.

This state’s government is totally out of control, and in response it’s residents seem to be content to pick their noses.

They would be better off just burning the money. At least they would get some heat out of it.

I do hope the California legislature is not entertaining the thought that the rest of the country considers them "too big to fail".

When a Libtard destroys his home, and moves somewhere else; they never seem to learn their lesson. When enough Californians come to Arizona, they will use their influence to try in Arizona, exactly what failed in California, in the hopes it will work “this time”.

Libtards are incapable of learning from their mistakes, there is always an excuse why their policies didn’t work. They didn’t invest enough money, they didn’t try it hard enough, they didn’t do it long enough, not enough illegal immigration, someone wasn’t ‘Black’ enough - there is always an excuse. And if you question their policies, and ask logical and probing questions - why, then you are obviously a racist.

It’s best to let them wallow in their failure; and have a local company start up and provide the service that was once performed in California.

California is in the grip of liberal whackos and this kind of stupid, unnecessary scheme to punish businesses via a ‘cap and trade’ regulation will drive many business out of the state, which is becoming a microcosm of what happens when the people allow politicians to follow their authoritarian instincts and micro-manage everyone’s lives. Thanks to this new cap and trade regulation imposed on businesses, jobs will be lost and many California residents will be forced to move elsewhere just to make a living. However, a majority of Californians chose to put liberal Democrats into positions of power and now, they can reap the results of that choice. I just feel sorry for the sane residents of that once-great state that didn’t vote for Democrat loons but have to deal with them, anyway. My suggestion is to seriously consider moving, no matter how inconvenient that may be. Pleasant weather can only trump economic reality for so long and thanks to the electorate choosing liberal Democrats to govern your state California is fast becoming unlivable.

When California is about to go under the federal government will step in and say we have to save them. The rest of the country will have to bail them out of their “idiocracy” because liberalism is too big to fail.

Since we know Leftafornia is a leftist Mecca, it is absolutley assured that these leftafornian legislators believe they can commit any liberal legislation they desire and the United States taxpayers will be forced to bail them out if the scam fails. ... Maybe we ought to be nice to LaRaza and actually give them Leftafornia as their new land ... naw, that would be cruel and inhuman treatment of Hispanics.

The most frightening thing about these leftafornian fools is THEY BELIEVE THIS CRAP! What will their demigods come up with next? HUmans must be regulated into fertilizers, to stop the production of that horrible greenhouse gas, which humans exhale every minute! Oh the hugh manatee! This is series! Where are all the pancakes and bunnies?

“The law requires the state to reduce carbon dioxide emissions emissions to 1999 levels”.

Hey, no problem. Just kill off all the businesses that have been built in the state since 1999. Silicon Valley, and all that. As another freeper pointed out, several years ago CA was boasting about being the world’s third largest economy. Now it’s eighth. Once cap and trade is done, perhaps they’ll be on par with Cambodia.
