It’s outrageous. I couldn’t believe it passed in my neighbor state.

“They would also have to eliminate Craigslist.”

Also Ebay. I’ve sold two projection TVs on Ebay, each for cash to a purchaser who picked it up at my home nad gave me cash.

My youngest daughter’s entire bedroom suite was purchased with case from information on Ebay. Now.. I have Craigslist to thank for my two cords of wood, kitchen table, and night stand. All paid in cash...

Do they have an illegal alien exception to the law?

Lots of stores don’t accept cash. It’s entirely legal to refuse cash. And safer these days.

Lots of stores won’t accept a bill larger than a 20. It’s entirely legal too.

The Treasury quote seems to indicate that States can make laws on this.

Someone will undoubtedly challenge the LA law, though.

So you can’t require a voter to have an ID because everyone doesn’t have an ID but you can require them to have a card to buy things even though everyone doesn’t have a card.

I would like to see cash go away...if your an honest person
you have nothing to worry about...if your not honest you
will get caught in your bad activities and that includes
all politicians, drug dealers and runners.
If your an illegal - you won’t get a card, if your on disability and your card shows your trasactions are thousands of dollars - you will have some explaining to do. If you want fairness in taxes - a card is the only way it would work. At tax time, you just turn in your card and it’s done. This would also show an accurate census count.

Cash transactions are difficult to tax if not reported. If they are not deposited in the bank, then they did not happen.

Now, the business has that much more reason to not report it.

Very smart, you sneaky politicians..yeah.

So I guess this means all lobbyists will have to start using checks, credit cards, or money orders to pay off the politicians now? Doh!! Government has screwed themselves unintentionally again!

Agreed. All this law will accomplish is to create an even bigger underground black market. The U.S. is becoming more 3rd world in its ways by the day.

Stupid law.

All the vendor has to do is instead of handing you a receipt, hand you a note saying “Amount Due: $xx.xx”

You sign it, hand him the cash, and walk away.

NO STATE can preempt the fact that ALL DEBTS PUBLIC AND PRIVATE are payable with FRN’s.

My wife has a new business of estate and moving sales. In fact, we will do another one next week. 60-70% of our transactions are cash. This will destroy the estate sale business as well as the flea market business.

How about cars? We sold a car at a sale and the person paid cash? My son bought a car and paid cash. Banks are not open 24/7.

Other fixes for law enforcement purposes would require that all items purchased for retail must produce photo state ID on the part of the sellers. Failure to do so causes fines upon the retailer. Many pawn shops follow this type of requirement but most scrap metal yards do not. Just make the laws apply to all like industry. Not a stretch and certainly not one to cause damage to sellers of used goods.

Try to rent a car at any airport with cash. I had a big bundle of cash in Atlanta, but had no card with me. Hertz, Avis, et al refused to rent without a card. Had to bum a ride into town with a colleague who was attending the same meeting...

I'm seriously hoping that I'm missing your sarcasm -- I'm only on my first cup of coffee.

If you're serious, you are about as dumb as a sack of hair. What's next? A little camera that we wear on our foreheads to video our every move in life? After all, if you're honest you have nothing to worry about ...

People like you are frightening to freedom loving folks like me.
