(Reuters) - Upstart Republican front-runner Herman Cain on Tuesday came under sharp attack from his rivals at a 2012 debate and struggled to explain his tax reform plan, the signature proposal of his campaign.
Cain, the former Godfather's Pizza CEO who has shot to the top of Republican opinion polls, found himself the target at the CNN-sponsored debate, where his rivals began to take him seriously after believing he would simply fade as time wore on.

HUGH AND SERIES?
I did NOT see that coming....
(I didn’t even watch the debate...)
Cain’s doing alright up there. Mitt’s definitely stealing the show though.
To be fair, that’s part of what he’s there for. Being a front runner makes it especially true.
Actually I enjoy the tweets for Michelle Malkin and Jedediah Bila most of all. LOL
Cain is the man to beat... or lose to.
Sounds like tonight was Herman Cain’s turn to get clobbered with the rubber chickens. Being number 1 in the polls causes that.
I’m watching starting now from DVR.
Anderson Cooper- I’m not too excited about this one, judging from this article, not much to see here.
Surprise, surprise. NOT.
CNN arranged a circular firing squad. I hope Cain shows he is a man who can take it and keep positive. The next POTUS will be highly criticized, time to prove his metal.
I don’t think there is any question that Cain won. The others came after him, but he held his own. He did much better than Romney did trying to defend RomneyCare. Overall Cain connected much better on a personal level and appeared more authentic.
Go, Herman, go!
you can’t tell that obama and the pubies want romney.
/s
Cain is not holding up well. Romney is slick as usual (gag). Perry has had his best night (still a horrible debater). Newt is great as usual. Santorum is his ankle biting self. Bachmann is pretty solid.
ANDERSON COOPER??????? CNN?????????????
We can see the GOP Establishment fingerprints ALL OVER these “debates”. Getting conservatives to cut each other to pieces and make Romney look good. The GOP Does NOT want any “Tea Party” influence in the Presidency. They want a PROVEN collaborator like Romney nominated. They would rather LOOSE to Obama than help a real conservative get nominated or elected.
I saw Anderson Cooper on Jeopardy. He’s an ignoramus. He even missed a lot of those “dumbed down” celebrity questions.
Yeah, he's been training a long time. He knows how to snake-oil the masses like 0.
I agree.
Cain got jumped on quite a bit at the beginning, but he seems to be responding with flip flops at worst and lack of specifics at best. Show me the Cain that took apart Clinton.
I’ve got to wonder who in the hell in the GOP agrees to a debate hosted by CNN and moderated by Anderson Cooper. I wonder if the Democrats would ever agree to a debate hosted by FOX News and moderated by Andrew Brietbart.
