Cain: Romney not a 'staunch conservative'

Herman Cain took a swipe at Mitt Romney's health care record Friday, telling radio host Michael Smerconish that the on-and-off GOP frontrunner isn't a "staunch conservative."
Here's how Cain responded when Smerconish asked if he would agree with Rush Limbaugh that Romney's not a "true conservative":
I dont think hes a staunch conservative because hes changed his position on too many things over the years. The other thing is, if you just look at Romneycare in Massachusetts, no matter how much he tries to pretend that it was supposed to be good for Massachusetts, a conservative would never have signed that Romneycare legislation in Massachusetts.
Confronting Romney directly - and often - would be a natural step for Cain to take now that he's the co-frontrunner in national polling. Conservative public relations consultant Greg Mueller told me for our story today: "Nobody has yet really taken Romney on
Now is the time for Cain to really step out and contrast why hes the real, populist conservative in the race and Romneys not."

Cain, I love ya man, but are you forgetting you endorsed him last time around? You knew about Romneycare then too. Best to tread lightly...

Can’t wait to hear Cain say about Perry, “The other thing is, if you just look at the Dream Act in Texas, no matter how much he tries to pretend that it was supposed to be good for Texas, a conservative would never have signed that Dream Act legislation in Texas.”

I’d agree, but if you’re choosing between Myth, McInsane, and Huckleberry, you don’t really have much of a choice at all.

"Nobody has yet really taken Romney on Nobody has taken OBAMA on.
Romney is doing well because he's behaving as if he's got the nomination wrapped up, and can ignore these irritants who are just up on the stage with him for propriety's sake.
Attacking Romney should be done, but only as an intro to attacking Obama. The reason Romney is sailing along now is because it SEEMS like he's going to win the nomination, and people are thinking, even if they won't admit it, that the others might not be able to beat Obama.
If Cain comes across not as someone who can beat Romney but as someone who can beat OBAMA, then beating Romnery will arise from that confidence he inspires in primary voters.
Attacking Romney sends one message: Romney's the front-runner.

Mitt could prove his conservative cred by endorsing Cain.

Wrong. Attacking Romney should be done if he's got people supporting him who don't know how awful his record is. It's obvious that is the case, so I'm glad to see Cain going after him.

At what point, and who were among the choices: Romney, McCain, and Huckabee?
Candidates can evolve.

If you actually read the article you would have seen that Cain went on to say that "a conservative would never have signed that Romneycare legislation in Massachusetts."

This is the worst Cain can come up with against Romney?! Gad are you transparent, PBPBTP
And just why should what Cain said have been his worst? You'd throw bricks at that too as intemperate and inappropriate violations of Reagan's 11th commandment.

Romney Kettle meet Cain Fithcal Conthervate Pot:
====================
TP: Mr. Cain, you recently came under fire for your comments about the kind of people you would appoint to your cabinet. Would you be opposed to appointing an openly gay HOMOSEXUAL but qualified person to be in your cabinet?
CAIN: Nope, not at all. I wouldnt have a problem with that at all. I just want people who are qualified, I want them to believe in the Constitution of the United States of America. So yep, I dont have a problem with appointing an openly gay person. Because theyre not going to try to put sharia law in our laws.

=====================
HERMAN: What happens now?
Scott Toomey: Well, now, uh, Ken Mehlman, R. Clarke Cooper, Meghan McCain, Mary Cheney and I wait until nightfall, and then leap out of the Fithcally Conthervative log cabin, taking The Party(tm) by surprise -- not only by surprise, but totally unarmed!
HERMAN: Who leaps out?
Scott Toomey: Uh, Ken Mehlman, R. Clarke Cooper, Meghan McCain, Mary Cheney and I. Uh, leap out of the log cabin, uh and uh....
HERMAN: Oh....
Scott Toomey: Oh.... Um, l-look, if we built this large wooden Rhinocerous -- [twong]
ALL: Run away! Run away! Run away! Run away!
[splat]
Cain is a salesman, not a conservative; and if it hadn't been
for Log Cabin RINOs nailing him the perch, his campaign train would've
been pushing up daisies in the wheelhouse before the cabose even got out of the yard.

I didn’t say he shouldn’t attack Romney—I said he should attack Romney only as a warm-up for attacking Obama.
But it’s not wrong to state that attacking Romney sends one message: Romney’s the front-runner. I don’t see how that can be disputed. You don’t see people saying Cain should attack Paul.
