"Gingrich is up a nominal five points, and Romney four, while Paul is down six, and Bachmann four."

It will boil down to Newt vs. Mittens. I think Newt will get key endorsements from Rick Perry and Sarah Palin as well.
Conservatives rising, liberals falling.
Somebody please tell me which is worse. Romneycare or Newt cuddling with Nancy on the couch chumming it up over man made global warming?
Don’t forget the photo of Newt sitting with Pelosi over global warming. Newt has a ton of baggage that will follow him.
You type faster than I do. Romneycare is slightly worse.
Newt is a brilliant guy, and is without a doubt the smartest guy in the room, just about anywhere he is. Having said that, I’m just not sure whether or not he’s presidential type material. I think it was his destiny to be Speaker of the House for half a century, but it just wasn’t to be.
Don’t get me wrong though, I’d happily do the whole ‘broken glass’ thing for Newt against 0bama!
If you consider either Newt or Myth Romney to be conservative, I would hate to see your idea of a liberal.
I think Romneycare is worse. I’m not sure if there is anything conservative about Romney. I don’t trust the guy.
I’m not happy with Newt either in that regard but at least we know he has had some experience in cutting budgets, at least SOMEONE finally called out Frank and Dodd in a debate. That was about 3 years too late.
I think Newt will stay in 3rd place. He has as much baggage as Myth. Let's not forget that Newt was an actual Rockefeller Repub. He actually worked on his campaigns. His Conservatism was for convenience and can be seen in recent years as questionable.
Easy. Romneycare -- because, only a few weeks ago, Romney stated he a.) believed the world was getting warmer and b.) that man was probably responsible.
At least Newt has said he "made a mistake..."
Oh, what a telling pic! Look at the faces behind him. Is that a Kennedy on the left? The privileged few who care so much for your chilrun! How many $$$ millions do you suppose are in this photo?
“Somebody please tell me which is worse. Romneycare or Newt cuddling with Nancy on the couch chumming it up over man made global warming?”
Now you know.
Why not choose the most brilliant, knowledgeable, experienced, Conservative, Christian, and yes, flawed, candidate that we have to pick from? Newt.
Between Newt and Mitt, I vote for Newt. We are just going to have to wait and see how this all plays out.
Everyone forgets that 5 minutes ago when the Obummer freight train rolled into DC after the ‘08 election and Repubics were all scared, there were a few who wanted to cozy up to the winning side to curry favor. One such dope was Newt. He actually said “The era of Reagan is over”. Who can trust this dude?
Not to worry. Romney will be the nominee. The Republican elites will see to it. Just as they have done in every election since 1980. Then all the good little Republicans will fall in line and tell us how Romney is the second coming of Reagan. Then they will whine and cry for the next four years after Nobama kicks his ass royally.
So Newt was what, some kind of community college professor who taught history or political science. Alvin Toffler’s “End of History”... jump on the bandwagon. OK the Contract With America was brilliant, but then he gets lost in the fame and the ego trip and the nookie. Enough of this “Newt Is Brilliant” crap already. A fking history teacher who got scammed by Gorebull Warming. Yeah... BRILLIANT.
He does give a good “debate” though. Lately.
I have to admit I’m giving Newt another look. Cain is absolutely out. 9-9-9 is toxic. A lot not to like about Newt, but it’s a rough field. Perry is toast. He flamed out faster than old Fred Thompson.
Yes, Newt is Conservative. He makes mistakes and must be watched. I think he has learned his lesson. In any case, he is the “best of the rest”. Cain is a nice guy, he is just too inexperienced in politics and foreign affairs. Yes, the presidency is a “POLITICAL” job. We now have a novice in foreign affairs in that job now. How is that working?
We can’t afford the time to “train” the next president.
This is an EIGHT year job, most likely. Cain is too old.
I agree. Perry is DONE. He will be the next one to drop out. His heart isn’t in it. He looked pathetic last night.
Romney MUST be stopped!
Disagree about 999 Plan, I think this will be viewed favorably by many Americans. Noot is the one who’s going nowhere in the long run.
How old is Herman Cain? His age never crossed my mind as an issue. I’d guess he was younger than Newt, but maybe I’m wrong. Paul is the one on stage that seems too old.
The tea party has apparantly hitched on to a loser—Mr. 9-9-9. If we’re gonna stop Romney, I’m running out of ideas. Newt? Santorum? I mean, what the hell?
Here is my calculus. We have these people running: Romney, Cain, Paul, Gingrich, Perry, Bachmann, Santorum, and Huntsman. The last four just aren't going to make it all the way. They'll run out of money and voters. The votes for Perry, Bachmann, and Santorum will break toward Cain or Gingrich. Huntsman's 12 voters will all go to Romney. As the field consolidates, Romney gains virtually nothing while Cain and Gingrich will pick up votes. Gingrich just has too much baggage, I think, to win. He is a brilliant man, but he has made a lot of enemies.
On the flip side, Cain had better increase his money and campaign support if he is to hold in there. Romney really knows how to hold together a truly professional campaign, and he has major backing, so just getting consolidated votes might not be enough.
9 9 9 + 5 years = 20 20 20
Cain is 66 years old.
We can always put a younger man in the pipeline as the VP candidate to keep the flow going and prevent the country from going down the drain into the bidet.
Where exactly is the top?
I hear you! 9-9-9 is a terrible idea, and the other candidates are right to say it'll be 20-20-20. It enshrines a new national sales tax, and at some point the income tax will rise to near present levels. Cain says part of the plan says that it can't be raised without a 2/3 vote. Sorry, Mr. Cain, but the Constitution says a simple majority is enough, and an amendment of this sort just isn't going to pass. 9-9-9 is feared by conservatives, libertarians, liberals, and retirees. It's DOA and politically ridiculous.
Santorum?? He's fine, but he doesn't have a chance. He pushed the values side while everyone is focused on economics. Losing his Senate seat also killed his chances.
Gingrich is probably the best choice of the three, and Newt's dalliances with the Left sicken most of us. To his credit, he is a very brilliant man who, when sane, really understands the economic problems we face. When he's not sane, he starts talking empowerment zones and big government solutions.
Fortunately I'm in a state where the winner is picked by the time I can vote, so I don't have to pick from a list where none of the candidates is satisfactory.
Newt cannot win. He has national poll numbers like Palin. Perry seems to be fading. The new poll showing Obama trouncing him will hurt his fund raising.
The race now looks like a battle between Romney and Cain. I am not sure if Cain has the staying power. Romney has staying power, money, and organization to make it through 6 months of primaries. Cain’s best chances are early wins to gain momentum and funds.
All of the candidates are flawed. It is disappointing that a clear favorite has not emerged. I will support the primary winner. If Cain is still viable, I will support him in the Colorado primary. If I were betting, I would put money on Romney.
I like Cain, and even sport his bumper sticker on my car, but he is betting every chip he has on 9-9-9, and it doesn’t seem to be gaining in popularity, and that may be a problem for him in the long run.
I agree that Newt has a ton of baggage. But damn, watching him in these debates he looks Presidential.
He’s the only person up there who seems 100 percent comfortable with himself and the task at hand.
I’m less worried about his Pelosi couch snuggle than I am about his reprehensible personal life and negatives with the average voter coming out of the 1990’s.
I don’t have any worries though about him selling out if he was elected. I think he’d implement a ton of smart conservative policies.
I agree! I have always been a Newt supporter because he is by far the smartest and most qualified of them all. However, I wasn't sure he would stick it out until the end. So, I wanted Palin first and Perry/Cain second. Now it looks like Newt is going to be in for the long haul and I am shifting my support to him! He is by far the best, but I repeat myself.
Hopefully sooner rather than later. There sits Romney, while the Tea Party flirts with the guy who wants to tax everything under the sun. Amazing.
I see on the FOX NEWS Website just now, “Cain, a onetime radio-show host and former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza, catapulted into the lead in the Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll.
This race is really turning into an historic and exciting contest among Republicans!
If fellow Republicans decide to choose Cain (or for that matter Newt) I not only have no problem with that, even though I’ve been supporting Romney, see Cain on top and Newt rising up puts a smile on my face.
You know, today coming home from work, I caught a glimpse of those “Stop Wall Street Greed” collection of Berkeley types, fat men with straw hats and beards, some stupid Union thugs, ugly women, it was probably about 40 to 60 people on two corners of a busy main street. They wanted us to honk in support - they were slowing traffic.
Well 99% of the drives would not honk. Myself included - we just drove by. I heard only two honks as the slow traffic crept past them.
I was sort of thinking of watching the phony (local) liberal news to see the report since I saw the NBC news van and such, and since I knew the truth I just wanted to see how they spin the news report -— but actually this time I didn’t even bother to turn the stupid NBC channel on because I already knew they would just lie to my face.
Many years ago I attended a rally against some liberal judge who was going to declare a prop invalid - the prop was about the people’s demand that State benefits are not granted to illegal aliens. In the square, there were about 3,000 people including myself.
The local news for this conservative rally reported “200” at the “protest”. Liars.
I was thinking, thanks to Wall Street we have in this country the legal right, for every citizen, to buy shares of stock in share in the ownership and growth of a public business, company, corporation and so on. Thanks to this right, I have invested, enjoyed, and have a handsome pool of value ($) which I look forward to in my last years of life.
These goons I saw today, they want to steal my investment, time and risk I put into this, steal it from me, and even the very right to be part of thousands of others who are joined together in share ownership of a company, to deny this right to all Americans.
They want to steal our right, steal our money - and for what?
So that they can allow the government to get this money, and ???? and do what??? To totally squander this money, this time, these investments on total idiocy, lies, promises which they will never deliver, even if in writing it means nothing, pigs who change the rules and with every change want to steal more from me?
I say stop this GOVERNMENT GREED! It isn’t about “BIG GOVERNMENT” anymore ... it’s about OBESE GOVERNMENT!
This pigly, selfish, lazy Berkely type losers think they will even get ONE PENNY of the money the government steals from the rest of us? They will only get “slave food”.
They make me sick. This pigs held signs “NO TEA PARTY!” and such. And that is why I love the tea party - and I love Mr. Cain.
Go get them Herman!
Many of us are going with Newt or Cain. Nobama has a stage presence that will smack the likes of Romney and Perry square in the jaw. That is a very important matter.
Romney is worse. Newt is sleazy and clumsy sometimes but he is a genius and would make an incredible president. My hunch? Newt is our nominee in the end unless the NYT selects Romney for us again this year. As of now, I'm for Cain with Newt on deck...
I like Newt, but not as presidential material. I think he would make a great VP, though.
Not when the moonbats have skin in the game
Money post of the day, ladies and gentlemen! Absolutely correct in all respects!
I'm not concerned the so-called baggage at this point.
Yup, we're all just stupid yokels that are incapable of determining who the best candidate is, unlike real smart guys like you. We can, however, spell.
Just curious: do you consider yourself conservative? Why would you support Romney? He has a horrible authoritarian health care mandate called RomneyCare, and he is also very weak on the Second Amendment. A Romney candidacy would severely de-energize the critical TEA Party base in 2012.
Just wondering why you support him. Are you from Massachusetts?
I will only vote for Perry or Newt.
