As part of its 2012 Diversity Visa program, the U.S. State Department is considering 5,662 applicants from countries deemed ‘State Sponsors of Terrorism’ – Iran, Syria, Sudan and Cuba.
In 2011, the State Department awarded 2,427 Diversity Visas to people from Iran, Syria and Sudan -- 1,842 for Iran; 553 for Sudan; and 32 for Syria.

The visa lottery is part of U.S immigration law. Blame Congress and the administrations, GOP and Dem, who have let this legal monster live so long.
The only way this can make sense is if the DOJ is handing out AK’s as they come thru the gates.
Something else that needs to run into a brick wall.

Every member of congress gets calls and letters from upstanding constituents, like the law-abiding dentist from Pakistan who just wants his sister and brother-in-law, and their kids, to get their immigrant visas.
Why deny all these nice folks their family reunification dream, just because of a "few bad apples"?
