Herman Cain woke up Tuesday to another day of soaring polling numbers, showing him moving into second place behind Mitt Romney and pushing Rick Perry out of the spotlight.

The day ended with the former Godfather’s Pizza CEO under attack from his rivals, both on stage and in a series of post-debate press releases meant to tear him down.

But from his new center-stage spot next to Mitt Romney, Cain calmly weathered every jab from them, the moderators and even the Democrats, walking out from the Dartmouth auditorium having done little to hurt his standing.

I actually think Perry did OK last night, and I especially liked his closing remarks.

He doesn’t have to win, he just can’t have another performance like that 3rd debate.

9-9-9 makes Cain absolutely unelectable. And rightly so.

ROFLOL, heard two different talk show people on the radio, both said what I said, he is over, done, finished, not going anywhere, time to go home. He also lied about the tenant farmer BS, just no one has picked up on it yet.

You know, maybe it’s not perfect, but it is a plan...and that’s a HECK of a lot more than anyone else is putting on the table!

I implore you to think through the notion that your staying home on election day is a good idea. Wouldn’t even Elmer Fudd be better for America than 4 more years of Obama? I get heart palpitations when I hear good Americans say they will stay home instead of vote for Obamas oppostion - whoever it is. This is not your usual election cycle coming up. Our future depends on Obama being thrown out. Sorry to preach....... I just get passionate when it comes to my kid’s future!

Cain calmly weathered every jab from them, the moderators and even the Democrats,

Not exactly ...

Cain nearly lost his cool when responding to Santorum confronting him on 'nan nan nan' and it adding a National sales tax.

Later, when asked about Fed Chairmen, he responded that he thought Greenspan was the greatest and should be patterned in the future. That unleashed a tirade from Ron Paul who gave a brief, comprehensive history of ills of the Greenspan economy.

Cain lost a few points [supporters] last evening.

Cain 999 tax plan, it is a catchy phrase but it is a political killer. You cannot win elections when you are telling the 50% of the population who pay zero taxes after filing all their deductions under the current tax code that they have to pay a mandatory 9% taxes on their income with zero deductions and an additional 9% national sales tax on every item they purchase including the basic items such as food and clothing.

You said "...after filing all their deductions under the current tax plan...". Oh my. Where to begin?

Never mind, I don't have the time to bring you up to speed. Before you go and say something foolish like that again, perhaps you ought to first educate yourself on Cain's 9-9-9 plan, and WHAT IT REPLACES...

He is the ONLY person on that stage I would like to see advance

Cain/Gingrich would be awesome

Sarah Palin as Energy Secretary

Ann Coulter as Press Secretary.

Thomas Sowell: Economics

Walter Williams: Education

Ted Nugent- Sec. of Defense.

And Chicago as the brass section.

Cain needs to drop the 999 plan toot sweet. It will be seen by Joe Public as a “scheme”. In 2000, Bush successfully nailed Gore on his “tax scheme” and “lockbox” talk in each debate.

My understanding is that 999 is a transitional system to a fair tax, which would be preferable to any other (IMO).

Tax consumption, not income. And make it COMPLETELY transparent as to what you’re paying. This takes power away from the government and puts it back in the hands of the people.

You know, maybe it’s not perfect, but it is a plan

And it's DOA. He'll never get elected with it.

...and that’s a HECK of a lot more than anyone else is putting on the table!

Where did you get that idea? I've been to the candidates websites. They all have plans and proposals on all the major issues.

I gotta give Santorum credit. He was the only one I saw who really went after nein-nein-nein.

“And he is obviously counting on conservatives reluctantly supporting him in the general.”

Mr. Romney is making a false assumption then. He will never get my vote in a general election.....even if it means four more years of the Obamination of Desolation. In my 57 years I have always voted for the Republican POTUS nominee in the general election. However, it wasn’t until Reagans second term that I started to consider myself a Republican...was essentially independent before. I may go back to the independent status again. I demand a social/moral/fiscal/hawkish consevative from the GOP if they want my vote this time. No more party loyalty.

I’m afraid that I have become passe in what I demand.

Wait until he tells them it’s a stepping stone to a 30% consumption tax. Cain has no chance. 9-9-9 makes him unelectable. If the Tea Party makes this mistake, like they did with Christine O’Donnell, and Sharon Angle, then they will reap what they sow.
