State Media Reports Iranian Pastor Facing Execution for Rape, Not Religion

Iran state media put out a stunning report Saturday claiming that imprisoned Christian pastor Youcef Nadarkhani is facing the death sentence for rape and extortion, not for apostasy and refusing to renounce his religion, as his lawyer, human rights groups and Western news media have reported.

"His crime is not, as some claim, converting others to Christianity," the deputy governor of the Gilan province, Gholomali Rezvani, told Fars, the semi-official state news agency.

"He is guilty of security-related crimes."

The Fars comments were part of a larger Iranian media push to counter reports that Nadarkhani was facing execution for refusing to recant his Christian faith.

“We’re trying to determine if this is the state-controlled media throwing it out there,” said Jordan Sekulow, Executive Director of the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ).

Regardless of what the state media claims, the court ruling is very clear. We know the truth and, what's more important, the Lord knows! This is indeed a "good and faithful servant"!

More “smoke and mirrors” from a country that jailed 2 hikers for two years because they were American , although under the guise of them both alledgedly being ‘spies’ . They remained jailed until the bail (extortion) was paid .

Just more of the same from a country run by mad men who advocate jihad and sharia law (?).

The Christian was tried for apostacy (conversion to Christianity ) and now supposed to have alledgely committed rape. Expect more “smoke and mirrors” from a corrupted government which is a theocracy .

Don’t muslim men get a pass for rape and the women is stoned?

I think they are ticked that the man won’t convert to Islam and are now making things up.

The Iranian government has been doing the same thing to the Bahá’ís for years. The government does not recognize their religious marriage, therefore the wives are prostitutes and the husbands are rapists.

Someone who hasn't had a decent bowel movement in five days after tons of southwest Asian food, ought to fly the Teheran-Caracas Iran Air route, take a huge "dump" in several of their onboard toilets, not flush, then crazy-glue the doors closed. Preferably the first hour or two out of Teheran.

Christendom might have a problem with a fellow christian being killed simply for being a devoted Christian, as do I as a christian. But the fact that its in Iran makes it none of my legitimate business.

The most we can do is offer to take the man and his family off the Iranians hands. This we and the Vatican perhaps should do.

I have little sympathy for the two hikers. When entering an enemy’s territory, one should expect them to act in a hostile manner. The hiker’s issue was two-fold: stupidity and arrogance. This issue with the priest should show the world and the rest of Iranian people that they need to take their country back.

Makes sense. And if you pass the plate for charity, that makes you an extortionist I suppose. Voice of the Martyrs mentioned Youcef in their just-arrived newsletter. He's been in prison for some time, so the belated claim that he is a rapist or extortionist rings false. They could have said that when he was first arrested, not months later. In the newsletter he is said to be sentenced to death for apostasy and evangelism of Muslims.

An article in the same issue speaks of how Iranian Christians have to remove the batteries from the cell phones because the police have used the GPS in the phones to track them to their meeting locations. The Islamic government there is repressive, but not in a living-in-a-cave sort of way unfortunately.

Then I will pray for him, as I already said I would on a different thread. I will pray that his soul is painlessly released into the waiting arms of Christ Jesus.
