Barring an 11th-hour stay, Manuel Valle, 61, is set to become the first prisoner to die from the state's newly revised mix of lethal drugs. The concoction has been challenged, twice delaying the death sentence.

I agree....Just how cruel and unusual was it for the victim?

1978? *sigh*

My sentiments exactly. Whatever happened to "justice delayed is justice denied."? Good grief.

DEATH PENALTY - - The perpetrator of the crime will never, ever, get the opportunity to do it again . . .

The problem is no one has ever survived a center hit, large caliber, high power round to the head so we have nobody to ask if it hurt.”

Well, if it hurt, it didn't hurt for very long. By the time one would feel the bullet penetrating the skin, his pain center would be destroyed, IMO. Although, as you say, I don't know. Perhaps someone could compare the speed of, say, a needle prick being felt to the speed of the bullet used.

On the other hand, I'm sure that the executee would feel the needle prick. I've certainly no taste for that, myself, although I don't consider that inhumane, either.

The important thing is to make sure you have the right man, penalties for prosecutors and police that failed to produce exonerating evidence would be a big step forward here), have a thorough appellate review, one time so that they can't just pull out their issues one at a time, and "git 'er done".
