Huckabee: Perry 'not prepared ... looked dumbfounded'
Politico ^ | 9/24/2011 | Alexander Burns

Mike Huckabee, the former presidential candidate and certified non-fan of Rick Perry, says the Texas governor isn't ready for the 2012 primetime.

Perry's latest debate performance showed he is "not prepared for the pressure of the presidential stage yet," Huckabee said on Fox News Saturday. "Rick Perry's got a struggle ahead of him."

Huckabee compared Perry to 2008 presidential candidate Fred Thompson, who entered the race late to huge anticipation and quickly ran out of steam. During that campaign, Huckabee sought Perry's endorsement, only to see his neighboring governor back Rudy Giuliani.

The former Arkansas governor said Perry fumbled the debate question about his support for giving in-state college tuition to the children of illegal immigrants. Perry's problem, Huckabee said, was that he positioned himself "really in opposition to the [GOP] base."

"Rick Perry could have answered that in a way that could have defused it," Huckabee said. "We’re not talking about people who just showed up to go to college, we’re talking about people we educated in our schools."

Instead, Huckabee jabbed: "He just looked dumbfounded."

Man, I hate bots. Bushbots, Perrybots, Palinbots, even Cainbots. They just can’t see what’s right in front of their own eyes.

Fred Thompson is one of my favorite people to follow on Twitter. He regularly belts them out of the park!
It’s like Twitter was made for him. LoL!

“Perry endorsed Giuliani?! Hardly a conservative choice.”

I caught that too. Sounds like a VICIOUS personal attack by Huckabee...at least to Perry supporters. LOL.

“Of course, you lie, when you suggest that Huckabee’s answer is a lie. At least in Arkansas, and I assume Texas, those who go t the in-state tuition had to go to schools in the state all four years of high school.”

Three years in Texas. Jump the border at age 15 and you’re set for in-state tuition, and I’m sure LOTS of other goodies (like free English instruction, or at least bi-lingual English), and who knows what else.

How come nobody is mentioning Ricardo Pherry’s Mehhiccan baggage train and all his little Sharia Muzzie buddies?
THAT ALONE means he’s toast.

As one who endured YEARS of Bush bots excusing away any and every bit of big government nonsense pushed forward by Dubya, I heartily second your sentiments. Those blind cheerleaders sully FR and are a disgrace.

"Huckabee sought Perry's endorsement, only to see his neighboring governor back Rudy Giuliani."

Now, that there is a VERY interesting factoid. I think that says all that needs be on whether or not Perry is "really" conservative......the answer is, apparently, NO!

Actually your parents would have had to bring you here. I would love to hear the solution to this problem assuming you understand the power the state government has to deal with illegal immigration.

Texans already have spent 400 million of our own tax dollars to secure America's border with Mexico. It wasn't Rick Santorum's Pennsylvania or Michelle Bachmann's Minnesota that kicked that in all though if they could get their state to alot 400 million apiece we could have Texas Rangers all over the border helping the border patrol. Ah but it's easier to go to the border once and scream like a maniac and make outrageous claims.

Rick Perry is against amnesty and for securing the border and for a path to citizenship, just like Palin and all the rest of the serious candidates. He just happens to know what the border is like, unlike those candidates who live on the Canadian border.

Thanks again Huckster for teaming up with McCain in 2008 and helping get this America hating Marxist in the WH !

It figures this idiot would let a Obama left wing media outlet use him to trash a fellow Goper so Obama could win.

Duncan Hunter had part of the solution but good old Texas' Kay Bailey H. voted NOT to fund it!

We have a working example of how the right fence works in CA.

Perry’s problem isn’t a poor debate - there’ll be others and I have no doubt he’ll prepare better next time.

His problem isn’t in-state tuition for illegals. That IS a big problem, but every candidate has flaws, even big ones, and he could have mitigated this with assurances that he wouldn’t try to translate this to the Fed level...

His problem, is that he called us heartless. That’s both indefensible and locks in his position on the issue in a way such that HE cannot backtrack without being the heartless SOB he accused us of being.

That one accusation finished Perry’s campaign. He cannot effectively undo that insult without opening up serious credibility problems.

Yes, only a few people are paying attention right now, but in politics, we are the “influentials” - people turn to us for insight because they KNOW we study this stuff. His insult was and will continue to be damning.

Perry had his Howard Dean moment Thursday night. Conservatives aren’t going to forget that he questioned not just our personal morality, but the morality of conservatism as well.

His only chance is to prostrate himself in apology and plead that the insult was an unintentional case of unbelievably really bad nerves. Given his overall performance on Thursday, that’d be believable. He should have started that apology in the post debate spin room. It was that obvious a blunder, and several key staffers should be fired for failure to recognize it for the CLM (career limiting move) that it was.

I’m not a big fan of Perry yet, but if RINOs like Huckabee have the long knives out for him, he might not be too bad a choice.
