Posted on 09/23/2011 10:56:11 PM PDT by yoe
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is reconsidering his decision not to enter the 2012 presidential race and he says he will let top Republican donors know within days about his plans, Newsmax has learned.
During the past few weeks, several leading Republican donors and fundraisers have been urging the popular Republican governor to reconsider his decision not to run and to enter the GOP primary.
These Christie supporters note that significant GOP support has remained on the sidelines of the primary fight. Many leading fundraisers have yet to commit to any current primary contender, including frontrunners Rick Perry and Mitt Romney.
Newsmax has learned that the effort to draft Christie culminated in a hush-hush powwow held in the past week with Christie and several notable Republican billionaires.
A source familiar with the meeting suggested that Christie seemed inclined to enter the race but said he needed more time.
Christie promised to make a final decision "within two weeks," the source said.
Another source involved in GOP fundraising tells Newsmax that that uncommitted fundraisers and donors have been receiving phone calls from top political aides to Christie, seeking their feedback about his possible entry into the race.
Earlier this week Christie hinted at the effort to draft him w when he spoke at a special forum that included Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels.
Christie suggested to an audience at New Jersey's Rider University that the current GOP candidates are not answering the public's appetite for real leadership.
"I think what the country is thirsting for, more than anything else right now, is someone of stature and credibility to tell them that and say, 'Here's where I want us to go to deal with this crisis,'" Christie said.

I hope he doesn’t go for it.
He’s doing a pretty good job in New Jersey. I’d like to see him put Jersey on a more permanent footing.
He’d take votes from Romney that’s for sure.
Another day, another RINO. We are being stampeded.
Hed take votes from Romney thats for sure.
That’s a good thing.
I don’t think I want him for president but if he takes Romney down, I’m all for it.
I do hope he decides real quick, the...maybe I will...maybe I won’t...bugs me.
Stature, not girth, please don't confuse the two, fatkin.
Jersey needs a lot more help. Cape May is one of my favorite vacation spots. Especially the light house after coming over the Lewes ferry when I get back from Chinkoteague. I probably spelled that wrong.
I pray that America wakes up.....
No way fat boy.
You have shown bad judgement more than once, the least of which was your fly over to your sons baseball game using public funds and assets.
I never saw Obama kiss Perrys azz that way.
that is one beautiful area.
See my tagline.
That’s because New Jersey was so far in disrepair.
If he could stay for two terms, and really bring up its standings within the fifty states, he’d be almost a shoe-in for presidential candidate.
Mind you, I don’t know if he’s done more changes than the NJ residents like and maybe that’s why he’s considering moving on.
I say let him join the bunch and see if he can hold up in the debates because I’ll listen.. as of right now I’m going with a Gingrich/Cain ticket
Let’s not get distracted or stampeded. Christie is good on State employee compensation and State spending in general. We have no idea or else negative indication regarding how he is on national security, immigration, global warming, right to life, strict constitutional constructionism, regulatory reform, tort reform, etc.
We can’t just assume that any new alternative is better than what we’ve got.
Isn’t it. I love that beach on the Southern part with the old WWII cement ship.
How far did he have to fly?
What was he doing around the time of his son’s game?
If he was busy governing, or had to go out of state, I’d be fine with him flying. We can’t expect our elected officials to not have lives while they govern and, if there was an important business to attend to around that time, would you be happier if he didn’t do his job, and instead went to his son’s game?
I’d also be fine with a Cain/Gingrich ticket
Gingrich is a great policy wonk.
But his personal life indicates he wouldn’t be a good presidential candidate.
Perfect. A RINO who can debate well. We’re doomed.
I’ll go Cain first with Newt second right now
Cain is also my favourite.
Gingrich for secretary and Cain for Finance
Yes, Christie is heavier than ever. His odds of avoiding sudden cardiac arrest are poor.
I’m just messing with the fat boy...
We cant just assume
I just took you out of context....!
He’s a biiigggg boy. :)
He can take it.
I like the lookout towers that dot the coastline...
as of right now Im going with a Gingrich/Cain ticket
That’s my leaning, too. I had been leaning Perry/Gingrich.
I don’t want Romney.
Coastline and watch towers?
Oh come on, that is just not a nice thing to say about Christie’s weight.
Sorry, hate to be a wet blanket, but as much as I like those options, can’t see them happening.
I think we’re going to end up with a RINO, but just hoping to get Rubio on the ticket to build for the future.
You used to be able to clime them. The damn Govt keeps trying to close them off. That is why I carry tools with me when we roll up on them.
I don’t see them happening, either. We are going to be force fed Romney and we will like it. not.
But, of the ones we have to pick from...Newt, Cain and Perry are the only ones I’m interested in. Perry may be done or maybe he can recover...guess we shall see.
One thing about Christie, he defends his policies very strongly and effectively. The liberal media took some cheap shots early on and he wiped the floor with them. Now they are more cautious.
Unfortunately, this is very unusual for a Republican. Most of them get defensive and intimidated by the media.
Now that “Ricardo Perry” has hit the rocks, they have to bring out the next semi-conservative candidate to shove down our throats.
The end game strategy is to split up conservative votes with all these candidates (Perry, Santorum, Christie etc.) so that Romney wins.
Thus, they both would prove unpalatable to the TEA party coalition, which will be the driving force in the 2012 elections.
Don’t be so quick to jump on Governor Christie. He would put the stake through the heart of the public worker’s unions, which are driving up the cost of government and pouring money and manpower into Democrat political campaigns. That Christie has done effectively in New Jersey.
I sure hope after this election conservatives do something to change the GOP or start a new party.
I knew Romney was going to be the next GOP candidate after McCain, it’s his turn and that’s how the GOP rolls.
I think Jeb is after Romney.

dude needs to go on the biggest loser first. He already has asthma (mom died from it). the stress of being a president would not help.
It’s not that he’s going to his son’s baseball game but how. At least for me. If you or I wanted to do the same we wouldn’t take the company jet or rental car to the soccer game. We’d have to get there on our own dime and on our own time. Right now we have a president & family who think their entitled to use resources because they think they deserve them. I don’t want another family that thinks like that.
