PA to US: Statehood veto would 'destroy' two-state solution (Will Barky Buckle?)

The Palestinian Authority on Saturday warned the US against using the veto to thwart its plan to seek membership for a Palestinian state in the UN next week.

The PA said that a US veto would "destroy" the two-state solution.

The warning came hours after PA President Mahmoud Abbas announced in a speech in Ramallah that he would ask the UN Security Council to accept membership of a Palestinian state.

Chief PLO negotiator Saeb Erekat warned that the US Administration's use of a veto to foil the PA move would destroy the two-state solution.

"Anyone who supports the two-state solution should back the Palestinian effort [at the UN]," he said.

Erekat hinted that the Palestinians would consider dismantling the PA if the US thwarted their statehood bid.

If Barky buckles he can kiss the Jewish vote goodbye.

On the other hand, I can see him going along with the PA despite earlier avowals that the US will use the veto, and claiming his about-face is an act of "statesmanship," but in reality would allow him to deliver a dagger into Israel's heart - something I'm sure he would enjoy.

However, if the US does use the veto, the PA will use it as a pretext for a war against Israel.

And everyone knows the PA is pushing this now because they know they have a weakling, a closet sympathizer and an Israel-hater in the WH. And they know that he may not last very much longer.

There is no ‘two-state solution’ That is simply a pretext to legitimize the PA and set Israel up for more and bigger attacks. The only ‘solution’ for the ‘Palestinians’ is the Final Solution Adolph Hitler sought. That will not happen.

Agree, it is a real dilemma for him. My $$ says he doesn’t use the veto? Why? Because he probably figures that there are enough illegally voting Hispanics and Muslims to counterbalance the Jewish vote anyway. Plus, many Jews will continue to vote the Democratic ticket no matter what he does to Israel.

The UN does not grant statehood. It merely acknowledges the existence of a state. Unless the Palies create a state there is nothing to recognize.

Because the Palestinians believe they can get what they want from the UN, they have not been willing to make any concessions or even enter into serious negotiations with Israel. Russia has now joined with China in announcing that they will vote in favor of full Palestinian statehood. The friends of Israel are few and dwindling, and at the vote next week, the Jewish state is likely to find few supporters.

The bottom line is this…while a Security Council veto would deny the Palestinians official member status they can also seek upgraded observer status at the General Assembly as a non-member state.

This could be interpreted as implicit UN recognition of Palestinian statehood because the assembly would be acknowledging that the Palestinians control an actual state. The advantage of this option is that it would require only a simple majority of the General Assembly. Since around 120 countries have already recognized the state of Palestine to date, it would likely win such a vote overwhelmingly.

If the Palestinians were to be recognized as a non-member state, they would be able to sign certain international treaties, such as the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, which they cannot currently sign. This will mean thousands of lawsuits against Israel and isolation and demonization of the State of Israel.

There are 2 different votes on in the Security Council and one in the General Assembly. The GA vote will probably pass, there is no GA veto, but GA votes are non binding, so the PA will just get an upgraded delegation not a “state membership”. Only a SC vote in favor would admit the state, and Israel is counting on a US veto.

This gambit is really risky on the part of the PA. Israel is already a state member of the UN. Israel can always walk away from any territory it does not want to annex. This resolves nothing, only escalates tensions at a time when it isn’t needed or necessary. I believe the two sides could conclude a deal in principle in a week. The real problem is that the PA doesn’t really want to solve its own internal problems and so continues to project them onto Israel. If Israel agreed to withdraw to 1967 borders the PA would still not agree - they don’t want to deal with getting their own house in order.

“The General Assembly is not a place where Israel usually receives a fair hearing,” Mr Netanyahu said on Thursday. “But I still decided to tell the truth before anyone who would like to hear it.”

As far as the true Christians are concerned, we will be delivered from the dark days of the seven year tribulation period by way of the rapture. We will, therefore, not be on earth for the full duration of the last generation before the Second Coming as we will be with the Bridegroom in heaven for the last seven years. In the traditional Jewish marriage the bridegroom secretly took his bride away, after which she spent seven days with him before she was revealed at the wedding feast to all the guests. This week prophetically refers to the year-week (seven-year period) between the rapture and the public appearance of Christ and His bride. This week will be a particularly dark time on earth as the unsaved Israel as well as the unsaved nations will have tribulation under the false messiah’s reign of terror, while also being judged by God (Matt. 24:21).

I am watching and waiting for this to happen for I will be with Him and not have to endure the wrath that will surely follow.
