Americans don't deserve to keep all their money says Dem.
Bi Government ^

Posted on 09/14/2011 11:42:46 AM PDT by mk2000

Schakowsky said that Americans don’t deserve to keep all of their money because we need taxes to support our society.

“I’ll put it this way. You don’t deserve to keep all of it and it’s not a question of deserving because what government is, is those things that we decide to do together. And there are many things that we decide to do together like have our national security. Like have police and fire. What about the people that work at the National Institute of Health who are looking for a cure for cancer,” Schakowsky said.

Schakowsky also says one reason the 2009 stimulus bill did not succeed was because it was not large enough.

Schakowsky also admitted there are questions about the Obama administration’s connection to the now bankrupt Solyndra solar panel company.

The administration approved nearly $528 million in federal loans to the company, before Solyndra filed for bankruptcy.

Schakowsky sits on the House Energy and Commerce Committee Investigations and Oversight Panel, which is holding hearings Wednesday into the matter. She said she and other Democrats want answers.

“You know, it certainly doesn’t sound good. The Democrats are not going to shrink from actually, you know, from any kind of full investigation of that. If there is a problem we’re certainly going to support the efforts to get to the bottom of this,” Schakowsky said.

We have never kept all of our money unless you go back a few hundred years. It’s not because we don’t deserve to. It’s because we believe a certain amount of government is a good idea.

Lately I've been hearing an awful lot of media people say that the rich "need to pay their fair share".

I'd like to know what a "fair share" is.
I'd like to know who determines that.
I'd like to know why one workers deserves to keep what he earns, and other worker "doesn't deserve" to keep that much.
I've seen the amount of tax revenue which is squeezed out of the top 5% of earners, and I've seen that 47% of the people pay no taxes. I'm not understanding how "fair" this is.

It's the art of picking Winners and losers. It's Favoritism. It's government as a way of rewarding friends and punishing enemies.

It's not American.

That raise alone is nearly half my pension.

Schakowsky is just plain ignorant. Federal spending doubled in the last decade. We now have about 50% who pay no federal income tax. I pay plenty of tax. These looters are in it to buy votes and line their pockets.

When you consider socialism, do not fool yourself about its nature. Remember, that there is no such dichotomy as ‘human rights’ versus ‘property rights.’ No human rights can exist without property rights. Since material goods are produced by the mind and effort of individual men, and are needed to sustain their lives, if the producer does not own the result of his effort, he does not own his life. To deny property rights means to turn men into property owned by the state. Whoever claims the ‘right’ to ‘redistribute’ the wealth produced by others is claiming the ‘right’ to treat human beings as chattel. - Ayn Rand”

think for a minute if we did away with income taxes and had only a user or sales tax. Taxes would be collected via business for goods sold.

This would be the fairest of taxes as those who spend the most would end up paying the most.

If I had a couply thousand more per month what would I do with it? Save it, tithe it and spend it. I bet the govt would take in more in taxes and of course our economy would thrive.

The KEY MORAL QUESTION here is:

“It’s fine for people to believe THEY are their brother’s keeper and there’s plenty of people who DO take care of each other charitably in the USA, BUT DOES THE GOV’T HAVE THE RIGHT TO FORCE PEOPLE TO BE THEIR BROTHER’S KEEPER???”

I say no because that’s against the 13th Amendment (It’s INVOLUNTARY SERVITUDE!):

AMENDMENT XIII

Passed by Congress January 31, 1865. Ratified December 6, 1865.

Note: A portion of Article IV, section 2, of the Constitution was superseded by the 13th amendment.

Section 1.
Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

Section 2.
Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

No American taxpeyer should keep “all” of their money and I do not believe that anyone is arguing that they should. Even if we were able to restrain fedzilla back under it’s constitutional bounds, there would STILL be a certain level of government that needed to be paid for.

Flat or fair tax now.
