“The American way is not to give taxpayer-subsidized benefits to people who have broken our laws and are here in the United States illegally,” Bachmann said at the CNN/Tea Party Express debate.

Perry defended the law, saying it was a states’ rights issue.

“We were clearly sending a message to young people that, regardless of what the sound of their last name is, that we believe in you,” Perry said.

No it is not... Perry said it was a States Rights issue last night and his States Rights affect life in MY State of Mississippi... THAT makes the issue relevant and cohesive to my argument. No sale!

Hmmm... didn’t Obama say almost verbatim the same thing a month or so ago ?

I wish they would call it what it is, “taxpayer-subsidized tuition”. The argument should not be about who has the right to go to college and what their last name is, its about who will pay for their college. Take away for a moment the immigration status issue, There is way too much taxpayer-subsidized tuition. Not everyone needs to go to college. And if college is the path you want to take but you can’t pay for it, then join the military and use the benefits by your honorable service. My best friend is having his kid complete his college in this way. Not by asking the government for money.

“Perry defended the law, saying it was a states’ rights issue.”

No Rick...defending our borders is a national (AKA Federal) issue. States cannot make up their own immigration laws....or shouldn’t be.

OMG, if that isn't a pandering, alarmist, leftist plea I don't know what is!

Perry looks like a George W. Bush replay to me!

After watching the entire debate, I was left with the exact same feeling. While we view ourselves as the party of God-fearing patriotic small government conservatives, the left views us as crony country club fat cat capitalists. If we waste this opportunity of a failed Obama presidency to elect a Perry or a Romney ... then they were right and we were wrong.

” Perry kept repeating the “last name” line.

Sounds like an attempt to turn it into a race issue. “

Also sounds just like Obama..........

pursuing a career

IOW, working illegally.

and citizenship.

"Pursuing" citizenship? They are required to state that they will apply for legal status some day. What is the time limit? 10 years from now? 100 years?

I don’t agree with the policy entirely, but the attacks are false comparing to the the leftists Dream acts .

The Texas Dream Act has enough loopholes for me.

and amnesty

Perry in a 2011 interview, to the question of would he consider "some sort of path to citizenship for people who are here illegally," responded "Sure."

You can say Obama is worse, because he definitely wants all the illegals voting. Perry is not 100% certain, apparently.

Gov. Perry may well have put AZ, NM, NV, CO in the GOP column with Rick Perry on the 2012 GOP ticket and made 55 CA Electoral Votes viable pick-ups.

Bookmarked. You are hereby on record as supporting pandering for votes. Sad fact is, a majority of Hispanics are opposed to illegal immigration. In fact, when Proposition 187 first came out in California, Hispanic support for it was over 70%. Hence, not only are you supporting racist pandering, but you are wrong too.
