Sad. Lost one of our local Carolina Hurricanes, or ex Hurricanes, Joe Vasiceck in that crash.
Quite a few people with NHL associations on board that flight.
Pavol Demetriev (formerly w/LA KINGS) also among the dead...
Very tragic. Prayers going out for all...
This is the Marshall crash all over again.
Also Ruslan Salei I remember him from the ducks. Terrible. Demitra was a good NHL player for years.
Also killed was Karl Skrastins, defenseman for the Dallas Stars
Assistant coach Alex Karpovtsev played for the 1994 NY Rangers Stanley Cup team. May they all R.I.P.
Wasn’t McCrimmon a Flyer years ago?
Russia grounds entire MiG-31 fleet after mystery crash
Russia has grounded its entire fleet of MiG-31 fighter jets after one of the Soviet-era planes crashed in unexplained circumstances on Tuesday morning, killing both pilots.

By coincidence, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev was due to attend a political forum in nearby Yaroslavl on Thursday so top Kremlin officials were already in the area which is around 150 miles northeast of Moscow. Accident investigators said they were looking into all scenarios but that it was not immediately clear whether the crash was the result of pilot error or technical failure. Although Russia has used some of its windfall oil revenues to buy new Western planes in recent years, hundreds of ageing Soviet-era planes remain in service....the plane involved in Wednesdays crash had only been flying since 1993.
Lost two ex-Predators also. So sad.
Yeah.
I think Boston traded him to Philly for G Pete Petters, is memory serves...
CA....
Twelve current or former NHL players have now died this summer.
Doctors told Agence France-Press that there was a third survivor, identified only as Suleymanov,[I can find via google a boxer, a footballer, a Consul General etc] but officials say he wasnt one of the eight cabin members on board nor one of the team.
Some reports said another member of the Lokomotiv, former Detroit Red Wing Ruslan Salei, escaped the tragedy as he had travelled to Minsk earlier, but other reports say he was on board and was killed.

"Yak-42 started the run at 16:00, Moscow time, and a minute later collapsed, looking about ten meters from the ground," Yaroslavl Airport manager Tunoshna Arius Novick added.
Here's the list of the passengers and crew [3rd reported "Suleymanov" survivor not mentioned]
The Predators have lost 3 former players in the past 2 weeks, all sudden and unexpected. God bless their families and friends.
He played a few years in Hartford too, before closing out his playing career in Phoenix.
Such a tragedy.
Thanks, how sad. I would have thought that he would be older though.
I remember Ruslan Salei from the 2003 Anaheim Mighty Ducks team that lost to the New Jersey Devils in the Stanley Cup Finals. He had a game-winning OT goal right off a faceoff in Game 3 to bring Anaheim back into it after they lost the first two games on the road.
He was also one of the two players involved in a comical incident later in Game 6. He got into a shoving match in front of his net with Grant Marshall of the Devils and ended up dumping Marshall to the ice on his knees. Marshall was in an awkward position and could stand right up and go back at him, so he grabbed one of Salei's feet, lifted it up off the ice, and twisted it sideways so Salei lost his balance and tumbled down next to him. LOL.
Sad summer for the Wild too, who lost former players Pavol Demitra in the crash and Derek Boogaard to an overdose. Prayers for the families of all those lost.
Make that four losses, since one of the players lost played for our minor team, the Milwaukee Admirals, Robert Dietrich. People are just stunned.
I remember Vasicek from when I worked for the Hurricanes years ago. He was a really good guy.
But who is this survivor.. saw no mention of this person anywhere else.
