And eighteen years before he became president, Ronald Reagan was a democrat. I guess if FR existed then, you folks would be calling him a RINO.

I am not a Perry supporter, though he’s looking better than any of the others running, but I’ve been hearing nothing from his opponents here but Al Gore (supported him 25 years ago) and this.

If that’s all you guys’ve got, then you’re welcome to Obama. I have big disagreements with Perry on several issues, but man, what’s your alternative? Who is this miracle perfect conservative who’s going to beat Obama?

You're right Rick Perry has changed. I've found photographic evidence of the evolution of Rick Perry:

Obama is running in the 35 to 40% approval rating range. The question you should be asking is.

Who can’t beat Obama in 2012?!

Blech...

It’s weird to see all this “RINO!” stuff in a place that is (rightly) hostile to the Republican party as it now is constituted. Such name-calling is a substitute for critical thought, and so brain-dead and meaningless when the definition of RINO is now “Whoever isn’t my candidate.”

We criticize the Republican party daily here—so what does “RINO” even mean anymore?

No, because Democrats in Reagans time were actually moderate Republicans.

Democrats in Reagan's time didn't wholeheartedly support Abortion.

Democrats in Reagan's time didn't wholeheartedly support the Gay Agenda.

Democrats in Reagan's time didn't wholeheartedly support GUn Control.

Democrats in Reagan's time didn't wholeheartedly support wealth redistribution.

You're comparing a tire iron with an orange. You are making a false comparison.

Furthermore, Perry was a Democrat AFTER Reagan was President for 2 terms.

Perry was Al Gore's campaign Manager when Al Gore had an ACU average rating of 7.5 for the three previous years and during that time voted no on all the pro-life issues that were included in that ACU rating.

Sorry, but your attempt at wrapping Perry in Reagan, when the facts are presented, just doesn't fly.

It means Perry is a RINO by any conventional measure of the term. I’m pretty sure of it.

Who can’t? Any Republican whose position is so out of the American mainstream that he or she virtually invites a spoiler to enter the race and steal away double digits of votes.

For Perry, it means:

1. He supports Comprehensive Immigration Reform (Euphenism for Amnesty)
2. He signed a Pro-Homosexual Agenda Hate-Crimes Bill.
3. He is against a Border Fence/Wall
4. He is against interior enforcement of Illegal Immigration, A.K.A. AZ1070
5. HE is against using E-Verify as a tool to limit Illegal Immigrants getting jobs in Texas.
6. He tried to implement a mandated vaccine for a sexually-acquired disease for minor girls effectively implementing a Nanny-State approach that made parents 2nd class citizen where the vaccine was concerned.

That should be enough for any red-meat conservative to be able to see that taking Rick's actions in consideration and measuring them against his current campaign rhetoric makes any rational conservative queasy.

Sorry, but your attempt at wrapping Perry in Reagan, when the facts are presented, just doesn't fly.

I wasn't "wrapping Perry in Reagan"--lying about someone you disagree with is a common tactic around here, but I won't stand for it. My comparison was simple and obvious, and your attempt to claim that Democrats were actually moderate Republicans--your EXACT words, as oppposed to your need to lie about my words--is so retarded it shows how desperate you are to just smear.

Reagan WAS a Democrat when I said. You can't see the simple point that people change over time.

If all you've got against Perry is stuff that's decades old, you must be really scared of him. What was your candidate doing back then?

You make good points, but the rhetoric about the vaccination thing is just kind of silly, with the ‘second-class citizen’ stuff. I don’t agree with that, but there’s plenty of precedence supported by Republicans when it comes to vaccination.

Not for a vaccine for a sexually acquired disease there ain't.

Not historical evidence for that at all, and even if there had been, would it have been right?

Is this site about supporting Republicans right or wrong or about doing the right thing from a principled conservative perspective?

Sorry, but you are ignorant then about what Democrats were about then compared about what they are now.

Except for the Al Gore thing, everything I posted is less than 10 years old.

Do you always use hyperbole this much?

I swear on my life that you distort more than any other person I've ever seen on this site. First you have said Perry's gay, and now you're saying Perry supports Hillarycare.

You have declared, via this letter, that Perry thanked Hillary for wanting to pass government run healthcare. Where does he say this? He never does.

If you pay attention to the things you post (when it's not the gay/lesbian websites that you like to post), you'll realize that this letter was written about TWO MONTHS after Clinton was inaugurated. Hillary was named the head of a task force for health care reform. Hillarycare was non-existent at this point. Perry was sending her a congratulatory letter on behalf of the agricultural sector in Texas for her efforts to head this task force. To say that he is thanking her for Hillarycare is an outright lie. The bill itself wasn't even posted until November 20, 2003, and the Senate took it up and killed it in August 2004.

But, don't let the facts get in the way.

You can call it lying all you want, but what I posted still stands, trying to make excuses for Perry by erroneously comparing him to Reagan is not only a stretch given the differences in the Democrat party now and then, it is dishonest to continue to do so after the truth has been pointed out to you.
