In 2001, Perry expressed his pride in the enactment of the statute extending in-state tuition to children of undocumented workers.

He said:

We must say to every Texas child learning in a Texas classroom, “we don’t care where you come from, but where you are going, and we are going to do everything we can to help you get there.”

And that vision must include the children of undocumented workers.

Undocumented children who’ve lived here most of their lives, by no fault of their own, whose expenses have been taxed and supported our state. Unlike the many many foreign students going to our universities and out of state students that have never put a dime into the Texas economy or state treasury.

Bringing revenue to our college and university system by their having to PAY tuition, it’s not a freebie, you know. It also brings them out in the sunshine, requires that they get in line for citizenship, or join our military if they intend to stay here.

Texans supported this law and still do. There’s not a damned thing not to like about it. Of course, except Perry derangement hysteria by those promoting the democrat lies.
