Jonathan Alter: You Think Obama's Been a Bad President? Prove It
Real Clear Politics ^ | 08/26/2011 | Jonathan Alter

Tell me again why Barack Obama has been such a bad president? I'm not talking here about him as a tactician and communicator. We can agree that he has played some bad poker with Congress. And let’s stipulate that at the moment he’s falling short in the intangibles of leadership.

I’m thinking instead of that opening sequence in the show “Mission Impossible,” the one where Jim Phelps, played by Peter Graves, gets his instructions.

RE: One of my most enjoyable evenings was spent watching him fall apart attempting to “interview” (read: viciously attack) Dinesh D’Souza on a CSPAN ‘Afterwords’ broadcast.

OK, Jonathan, let me count the ways:

1. A stimulus bill that didn't stimulate.

2. The suppression of domestic oil and gas drilling, which weakens the dollar, prolongs our economic malaise and exacerbates our dependence on foreign oil.

3. A financial regulatory bill that did little if anything to solve the problem of "too big to fail" but nevertheless increased the regulatory burden on the financial sector.

4. Hostility toward Israel.

5. A Justice Department that is STILL sueing banks to force them to lend money to people who cannot afford to service the debt.

5. A deadline for surrender in Afghanistan while continuing combat operations there.

6. A radicalized National Labor Relations Board.

7. The transfer of a significant interest in GM to the UAW while concurrently subverting the legal rights of the GM bondholders.

8. The effective granting of amnesty to illegal aliens without the legal authority to do so.

9. The suppression of job creation by continually threatening small business with tax increases.

10. A failure to encourage repatriation of offshore corporate profits by reducing the corporate income tax.

11. Obamacare.

12. An out of control EPA that is contributing to significant increases in utility costs, thereby contributing to the suppression of job creation.

13. Wasteful and corrupt spending on "green energy" projects.

I'm sure there are more, but those are the ones that come immediately to mind.

JONATHAN ALTER DEMANDS GORE PRESIDENCY IN SPITE OF OUTCOME

— The close outcome of Tuesday’s presidential election was remarkable, but one liberal reporter — Newsweek writer and NBC talking head Jonathan Alter — urged that Gore be “certified” as the winner whether or not he has met the Constitutional burden of securing a majority of Electoral College votes. Here’s what Alter told NBC viewers at approximately 3:30 Eastern Time this morning:

— “If it turns out that Al Gore wins the popular vote nationally, there will be intense pressure in this country to have him become the President. Most people think the guy with the most votes wins. Recounts are as much an art as a science. You have experts, consultants, who go around the country doing recounts. If the recount came out on behalf of Bush and Bush had lost the popular vote nationally they would go to court, there’d be another recount. It would become endless. And the political pressure would mount very quickly to, to certify Al Gore as, as the winner. Especially since you have a potential conflict of interest here with the Governor of the state that is handling the recount being the brother of Governor Bush.”

— That’s not what the rules say, of course. Liberals like Alter have a long history of trying to use their journalistic perches to push for liberal policies and create positive auras around liberal politicians. But it’s outrageous for a liberal journalist to act as if the Constitution doesn’t matter, and that “political pressure” (read: media spin) can get their guy a job that the voters didn’t lawfully give him.

— Both Tom Brokaw and Tim Russert told Alter he was wrong. Russert retorted: “You can’t change the rules just because people don’t like the outcome whether it’s resolved by a court of law or a board of elections or whatever?”

1) Stimulus spending has never worked in any economy throughout history.

And Bush's TARP was legislated by a DEM-CONTROLLED Congress. Pelosi and Reid.

OK, I watched the clip of the Alter-D’Souza discussion on CSPAN.

The only conclusion I can reach is that this Jonathan Alter character is a complete liberal fascist who attempts to shout down people rather than listen to and evaluate their arguments.

His type is simply not to be taken seriously.

“If any other of our presidents had doubled the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year”

Might want to strike this one off the list, because it didn’t happen.

But lets talk about what he's achieved:

Cripple the oil industry thru the EPA...success.

Turn entire space program over to the Russians...success.

Eliminate ban on gays in the military...success

Abandon our struggling trading partners...success.

Turn back on Israel...success.

Pretend Michelle's clothes don't make her ass look enormous...success.

Most Leftist/political Supreme Court appointees EVER...success

As we sink into our sea of debt, Obama bails water into the boat. Under Obama, government spending has swelled to 24% of GDP from 18%.

Meanwhile, he completely ignores $60 trillion in unfunded entitlement liabilities.

This is a good president? No, Jonathan. This is the worst president ever.
