Is your representative holding a public town hall meeting this August recess? No Labels called every office, and only 40% are scheduling open town hall meetings. It’s a sad sign of the state of affairs when our elected officials don’t have time to meet with their constituents.

KEYWORDS: congress; democrats; elections; townhalls
The source has a footnote with a correction that makes it even more clear that its a supermajority of the Democrats in COngress who are truly afraid of their constituents.

The numbers actually show 71% of Democrats are not having any townhall meeting:

Dem: Yes = 56/190 = 29%

Dem: No = 134/190 = 71%

=========

But a majority of 51% of the Republicans are having a townhall meeting.

GOP: Yes = 122/240 = 51%

GOP: No = 118/240 = 49%

========

Total: Yes = 178 = 41%

Total: No = 252 = 59%

I doubt it's “fear” of their constituents that is a factor here. Rather I'd say it's avoidance of pointless confrontation.

It is fear that they will be harmed by the light of day, not fear of physical harm.

I don’t care if my guy does. He can just keep doing what he’s doing.

Mine (Steve Southerland) has had several and he is doing what we elected him to do. He voted no on raising the debt ceiling.

My Congressman, Dan Burton (IN), has held several town hall meetings so far. He has conspicuously advertised on the radio for them.

He also did not vote for the debt ceiling increase.

Sure wish I could get Eshoo to hold a live in person town hall. I’ve asked and asked and yet she will not schedule one. Not a good way to run and office!

Oh well just have to work to vote her out.

Looks like I’m not the only one pissed at these guys.

Fed up with both Obama AND Congress? Take a number and get in line!

They’re so open minded, they don’t need to hear what we say. :)

Why are you laughing? Most of these people are going to get re-elected.

It’s why they have contempt for us.
