(Reuters) - Former presidential candidate John Edwards has replaced the legal team defending him against criminal charges of campaign fund violations.
Edwards has hired Chadbourne & Parke partner Abbe Lowell, according to a document filed with the court on Friday. Lowell is a white-collar defense attorney.

Usually closer to trial when they pull that trick.
More likely disagreements between client and defense team. Happens quite often when the defendant is a lawyer himself, even if he's never tried a criminal case. We had one lawyer here in town (now gone to his reward) who was constantly in trouble but could not keep a lawyer. He wound up representing himself and losing badly.
A word to the wise, John: shut up and let your lawyers do their job. A lawyer who represents himself has a fool for a client.

Attorney Greg Craig was Jon Edward's former attorney.
"Craig has served as White House counsel under President Barack Obama.
He led the team that President Clinton assembled to defend him during impeachment hearings in 1998 and was a member of Clinton's trial team in the U.S. Senate."
