Implementing or not implementing the Fair Tax does not add or remove the concern you express. It gives them another pocket to pick.
They'll wind up with the income tax AND a national sales tax.
With exemptions for Democrat voters, of course.

They are already dipping their toe in the water as they consider adding a VAT on top of the income tax. Whether the Fair Tax is pursued or not, bill not keep them from being greedy. They will do whatever they feel they can get away with. The same thing that has held back the advancement of a VAT on top of the income tax will hold back the advancement of a Fair Tax on top of the income tax -- they know they can't get away with it. Would you like to be up for re-election once that double-dipping goes into effect? Not going to happen.
