I look at the BLS (and DOL) data each week and it is quite evident to me that there’s some “cooking” with “special sauce” going on, all the time. For example, if you like a little math, get an Excel spreadsheet and run a simple binomial probability (BINOMDIST) function (as in flipping a coin) to see what the probability might be of upward (rather than downward) revisions 29 out of 30 times this year, with an equal chance of both; mass probability function = TRUE. Lots of zeroes there.....0.0000027939%. It must be a miracle. ;-)^

IIRC, the weekly Labor Dept. numbers are obtained by the BLS having the Census Dept. conduct a telephone survey. Seems to me an odd way to conduct such an important survey.
