Gov. Rick Perrys friendly relationship with some Texas Muslims was touted in a recent story on Salon.com.
While some other presidential candidates bring up concerns about American Muslims loyalty and decry Islamic law in the U.S., heres a Christian, Republican politician who initiated a teacher-training program on Islamic history and has been friends for years with the Aga Khan, head of an Islamic sect called Ismailis, Salon points out. Perry even laid the first brick at the groundbreaking ceremony for an Ismaili worship center in Plano in 2005.
According to Ismaili national spokesman Mahmoud Eboo, the premise of the Salon story is true, and despite criticism for his Christians-only prayer rally, Perry serves on behalf of all Texans regardless of race, color or faith.

One mo time: advising people to read up on Aga Khan IV before commenting. He’s not your typical muslim.
Or he's just better at practicing Taqqiya.
They're part of the Sevener Movement (focus on the 7th Imam returning as the Mahdi).
For the most part they are extremely pacifistic the last few centuries ~ in some places they are persecuted as not being sufficiently Islamic.
You could have worse friends easily.
I am not worried about that one bit. Just because Gov. Perry has some Muslim friends means he’s an Islamic sympathizer, supports Sharia Law and wants to Islamicize America? I think not.
Not all Muslims are evil and the hatred for Muslims has to stop, and this is coming from a Christian. It is not helping our cause.
Perry is a Methodist (as was GWB) and the Methodists are among the most liberal protestant denominations -
which is why I am currently churchless
Gov. Perry should have the Islamic vote sewed up in the primaries, as long Gov. Christie stays out of the race.
Hunstman, Perry, Romney, Gingrich, Paul...too liberal.
Palin, Bachmann, Cain, Santorum, too conservative or not enough experience.
Gee, I guess we just better hunker down for 4 more years, huh?
If we continue to tout our own candidates’ negatives like this, that is exactly what will happen.
So this fantastically super-duper super Christian is willing to materially aid and abet a religion that specifically denies Jesus is the Son of the Living God. Having severe cognitive dissonance here ... have to walk away from this one till the noise in my head stops. Sounds just like a warning siren .....
“So this fantastically super-duper super Christian is willing to materially aid and abet a religion that specifically denies Jesus is the Son of the Living God.”
I fail to see the problem. Is he not the governor of all Texans?
“It is not helping our cause.”
‘’Fight and kill the disbelievers wherever you find them, and seize them,
beleaguer them and lie in wait for them in every stratagem of war...” (Quran
9:5) || “O you who believe! Do not take the Jews and the Christians for
friends; for they are friends but of each other; and whoever amongst you
takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does
not guide the unjust people.” (Quran 5:51)
And whose cause is that? n/s

HatNBoots just lost me with the Moslim pandering schtick.
Another ‘Texan’ (who wants to be Pres) pandering to ‘the Religion of Peace’.
drip .. drip .. drip
Useful infidel?
Perry..An open borders muzzy lover? Now I have two good reasons to not to even consider him.
When you march up to attack a city, make its people an offer of peace.
If they accept and open their gates, all the people in it shall be subject to forced labor and shall work for you.
If they refuse to make peace and they engage you in battle, lay siege to that city.
When the LORD your God delivers it into your hand, put to the sword all the men in it.
As for the women, the children, the livestock and everything else in the city, you may take these as plunder for yourselves. And you may use the plunder the LORD your God gives you from your enemies.
This is how you are to treat all the cities that are at a distance from you and do not belong to the nations nearby.
However, in the cities of the nations the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, do not leave alive anything that breathes.
Completely destroy themthe Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusitesas the LORD your God has commanded you.
Deuteronomy 20:10-17
Touche! Nice comeback, and indeed Rick Perry is the Governor of ALL Texans; Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Jewish, even people who worship the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
No problem on my part either. If you’re the POTUS, you’re the POTUS of ALL Americans, regardless of creed. That’s what American stands for.
And, the last time I checked, the Muslims weren’t the only religion in the Middle East that specifically denied that Jesus is the Son of the Living God. Hint: these folks go to synagogues.
“Not all Muslims are evil and the hatred for Muslims has to stop”
Read the Koran, verify the history, now 1,400+ years long, of Koranimals indulging their ‘inner MadMo’.
To know Islam is to loath, not fear, it.
Here is the best description of Islam ever written, by one of the Western Nations most notable leaders:
How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy.
The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live.
A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.
Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it.
No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome.
— Sir Winston Churchill (The River War, first edition, Vol. II, pages 248-50 [London: Longmans, Green & Co., 1899]).
Pleae forgive my rendering your pleas for understanding of Islam moot, but Islam is understood by all who know it.
At the risk of irritating a certain hot dog ad agency for paraphrasing their ad, ISLAM - Know it, You’ll loath it.
Make that, “....that’s what America stands for.”
Sounds eerily familiar; where have I read that before?
Oh, yeah! The Qur’an!
I would think a governor should maintain friendly relations with the citizens of his state. Islam and Communism lead the destructive forces on Earth, but there are commies and Muslims who behave in society, and some who don’t. I am more concerned about what Perry or any candidate understands about Islam. If they think it is a religion of peace, they need to expel the brain farts clogging up their heads.
From your post, it is clear that the Almighty knew what should be done to the Mid East Sand Savages.
He did attempt to replace them with a vastly more civilized people.
Even God can’t save those Sand Savages from themselves.
It’s one thing to be the governor of all Texans. But ceremonial gigs such as this are not mandatory nor are they always helpful. This one will hurt him. We have a federal right to individually practice our faith, and even to argue for our faith in the public square. It does not follow from that premise that an ostensibly Christian governor is required, either legally, morally, or politically, to play buddy to every religious body under his authority, especially those that undermine his own faith.
Put another way, how would you feel if Perry attended a groundbreaking ceremony for a new building for Fred Phelp’s congregation?

I am not sold on Perry.
many people in here whine about how Americans knew about Obama and voted for him anyway.
I am not voting for someone I do not have confidence in and Perry’s record doesn’t appear to be as shiny as some wnat to make it out.
Right now I am still holding out for Sarah Palin.
DITTO.
He is quite westernized.
Unless we as Americans, regardless of political ideology, adopt a ZERO TOLERANCE policy towards politicians who are Islamophiles, we will shortly find them compromising the Judaeo-Christian concepts upon which this nation was founded in return for Muslim money, and creating Sharia tolerant policies HERE as they have in Western Europe - most particularly Great Britain.
While not all Muslims are terrorists and not all Muslims are evil, Islam ITSELF by its very nature, what it preaches and endorses, its entire past history and its behavior currently where it is the dominant religion or even a large minority religion, mark it as an evil, intolerant, dangerous cult.
It is as alien to America and western civilization as NAZIism.
If Perry has such close contacts with the Islamic “community”, he should be held in the same degree of distaste as Chris Christie, another notorious Islamophile.
Then we hear that the British PM was "friends with Bin Laden" and then more names of PMs from other countries were exposed.
Then we find out that Bin Laden has more than 50 brothers (because in their culture the father can have multiple wives.
Then the final dot is connected... The Bin Laden family is in the building business and they are the biggest company that builds Embassies for the nations of the world. They are Embassy building contractors.
So, Bush, Clinton and everybody else had a relationship with the Bin Laden family (who had separated themselves from Osama Bin Laden long ago).
I know Texas is an oil state. And there's a lot of oil in Saudi. Oil connection?
I guess we will know once we hear about the nationalities of these Muslims.
Perry can win the independents, Palin cannot - it’s that simple. She has been far too damaged by the media to win the independent vote and to overcome the voter fraud that I am sure will be unprecedented in 2012.
Think not...but good idea to find out where he stands on
Ground Zero mosque; sharia law; CAIR and Muslim Bro. And the
Middle East in general...
No discerning Christian would ever sign a “hate crimes” bill either, considering they are already being used to suppress Christians in other countries. Perry would be worse than Bush, imo
I am not sold on him either. I have done a lot of reading about him and frankly find him to be a flip flopper. I said on another thread that he would not get my vote. My word, I thought I was being attacked by the usual, “if you don’t support him, Obama will be elected for 4 more years”. Why decide now anyway?
There are lots of muslims here who came as students before the Shah of Iran was deposed. They couldn't return. Some of them in my area put up posters of Ayatollah Khomeini decrying him as a murderous thug, calling for his death.
Many of them were from families who were employees of the Shah's Government. Their families were persecuted when the Shah fell from power and Khomeini took over.
I was just reading a 2004 Salon article on Bush, and Salem Bin Laden’s investments in TX.
Even though Salem Bin Laden took his father’s place as the head of the construction empire, and investing the family’s wealth, I think the Salon article was trying to (in the final paragraphs) infer some weird connection to George Bush missing a physical to the Bin Ladens or Mahfouzes. The article really lost me there.
My Dad knew Salem Bin Laden because my Dad was in the Aviation business. He really liked the guy, and was saddened by his untimely death in the ultralight crash.
We’ve had three presidents in a row kissing Muzzie butt, each one more than the last. I guess it’s a trend.
Your point is well taken. One can assume that it was well over 3 thousand years ago and much forgotten. In islam it is still practiced and will not be forgotten.
I think there is a difference between a historical reference to God commanding the Isrealites to displacet these tribes in a specific battle and to establish a promised land and a general policy of distrusting and attacking all christians and jews in modern day...what do you think?
Not too strange coming from a Bush supporter since his family is close friends with the Saudi's.
Do your Muslim friends bring a Koran to your house? Will they let you take a Bible to their house?
Beware of ravenous wolves in she eps clothing.
You are a clear example of how we have devolved our culture, Libertarianism always leads to Perversion, not that there is anything wrong with that. I guess.
Care to finish, by explaining what happened as a direct result of this command being disobeyed?
Wishful thinking has made you delusional.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m looking forward to another Muslim-friendly administration. **GAG** Bob
delusional is thinking Palin CAN win over enough independents, when she does even poll that high with republicans.
“You are a clear example of how we have devolved our culture”
Perhaps you should “preserve our culture” by promoting an amendment to deny Muslims the right to vote.
Good luck with that.
Its simple. Perry’s a politician. And Muslims vote. Thats why politicians do this sort of thing.
