Washington (CNSNews.com) – If the negotiated debt bill becomes law as expected, President Obama aims to press the special congressional committee created by the deal to include tax increases as a way to achieve $1.5 trillion in deficit reduction, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said Monday.
“That committee will be charged with reducing the deficit further, by $1.5 trillion further,” Carney told reporters Monday. The 12-member committee will comprise six Democrats and six Republicans, from both Houses of Congress.

The white house earlier said they would veto any plan to keep the bush tax cuts, which the white house claimed would save an additional 1 trillion from the deficit.
The problem with that, beyond the stupidity of letting those tax cuts expire, is that the CBO forecasts already ASSUME those tax cuts expire, so if you let them expire, you don’t save a DIME.
The republicans made sure the debt bill used that CBO baseline so that the democrats couldn’t push a plan to end the bush tax cuts and count it toward the 1.5 trillion in spending cuts.
So if they want new taxes, they will have to find other new taxes to raise.

The Congresss should have let it default.
Frankly I don’t care if they raise taxes on millionaires as long as it’s not drastic. As far as billionaires goes I don’t care if they take it all. They’re all Obama supporters anyway, or claim to be.
Remember the trigger. If the house and senate can’t pass a bill, the military and medicare will be slashed.
The committee should be called the Politburo.
I want to hear what Boehner and the Tea Party members who caved on the intial vote have to say now.
