(Reuters) - Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin accused the United States Monday of living beyond its means "like a parasite" on the global economy and said dollar dominance was a threat to the financial markets.
"They are living beyond their means and shifting a part of the weight of their problems to the world economy," Putin told a Kremlin youth group while touring its summer camp north of Moscow.
"They are living like parasites off the global economy and their monopoly of the dollar."
President Barack Obama announced a last-ditch deal to cut about $2.4 trillion from the U.S. deficit over a decade, avoid a crushing debt default and stave off the risk that the nation's AAA credit rating would be downgraded.
The deal initially soothed anxieties and led Russian stocks to jump to three-month highs, but jitters remained over the possibility of a credit downgrade.

maybe,
but the u.s. keeps the world oil shipping lanes open etc.
Sorry, but this is strong medicine, and WE NEED IT.
The US —not Russia— is a parasite.
The WashPost —not Pravda— is a dishonest, government CHEER LEADER.
These times are crazy as hell, sure, but that’s the damned TRUTH.
HE IS RIGHT.
Maybe, he was talking about leadership in Washington?
Putin gets it.
I’m in agreement. Putin is right. He doesn’t call a spade a spade, he calls a spade a motherhuggin’ shovel.
Putin is just another Tea Party terrorist. /s
The left has long believed the US is a parasite on the world, that is WHY they are bankrupting us
Actually, I am feeling the same... glad I didn’t say it :p
(the socialist govt. running the show, not ‘We, the People’)
Well said.
Don’t enjoy saying it, but its true.
Last Wednesday, our favorite pizza joint had CNN on. We gotta get them to change that, but I digress. There was a guy on that said the very same thing...American is sucking up all the capital. Too bad it wasn’t a call-in show.
So watch what’s coming now, folks. That is going to be the new attack. Thanks Putin and CNN for giving us advanced info. I’m sure it will be used by Daily Kos, HuffPo, ANSWER, Code Pink, and of course, MoveOn.org very soon. Start preparing!
“I guess Hillary better hit the reset button again.”
Maybe this time the she can find someone among the overpaid, worthless Harvard-educated pseudowonks in the State Department capable of translating ONE SINGLE WORD into Russian properly.
He does make the same points most other would emphasize, but their currencies have about this same connection to reality as ours does now. Finding one or several of sufficient magnitude and viability to replace the dollar as a worldwide medium of exchange and store of value becomes perplexing. An individual country might think they have a solution, but they know they must also survive during the resulting chaos as all countries seek similar solutions. They see the daunting specter of disaffected holders sending trillions of dollar denominated bonds to the marketplace when there are no buyers unless prices are severely discounted. They are also frightened by the image of a devastated U.S. economy, because feeding the insatiable desires of U.S. consumers has been a mainstay of their prosperity. I imagine something like the final scene in The Good The Bad and The Ugly. The members of the G-20 are standing in a circle with open graves behind them. They are all contemplating how they are going to successfully outdraw the other nineteen members and survive the resulting mayhem, which Lee Van Cleefs character did not.
Liberalism is parasitic, by nature. Any society that allows the growth of groups of young able bodied people who don’t work, but have children and live off of welfare as a birthright, is encouraging parasitism. I’m not making a global characterization here of all on welfare. I definitely believe that in the general ethos that ‘but for the grace of God there go I’, but that concept is not applicable, in my view, when people are actively scamming the system. Further, the scamming is being done not just by the recipients of the government money, but also by those who are buying votes by promoting these programs.
