Why Voters Tune Out Democrats (Half right)
NYT ^ | July 30, 2011 | STANLEY B. GREENBERG

Posted on 07/31/2011 8:24:33 AM PDT by MontaniSemperLiberi

Our research shows that the growth of self-identified conservatives began in the fall of 2008 with the Wall Street bailout, well before Mr. Obama embarked on his recovery and spending program. The public watched the elite and leaders of both parties rush to the rescue. The government saved irresponsible executives who bankrupted their own companies, hurt many people and threatened the welfare of the country. When Mr. Obama championed the bailout of the auto companies and allowed senior executives at bailed-out companies to take bonuses, voters concluded that he was part of the operating elite consensus. .... As people across the country told me, the average citizen doesn’t “get money for free.” Their conclusion: Government works for the irresponsible, not the responsible.

...

The Democrats have to start detoxifying politics by proposing to severely limit or bar individual and corporate campaign contributions, which would mean a fight with the Supreme Court. They must make the case for public financing of campaigns and force the broadcast and cable networks to provide free time for candidate ads. And they must become the strongest advocates for transparency in campaign donations and in the lobbying of elected officials.

Finally, progressives have to be serious about reducing the country’s long-term deficits, constraining special interest spending and tax breaks and making government accountable to the ordinary citizen. .... Voters I’ve studied say things like, if “we keep spending like this, we’re going to be bankrupt and there won’t be anything for anybody,” especially “our children.” The final straw is the government’s decision to continue spending and to put the country deeper into debt and more dependent on China.

Well they got it half right. It did start before BHO became president and Americans are tuning out Democrats. One reason is as they say, Democrats have been corrupting their stated policies with compromises and half measures. The reason they don't give is that Democratic policies don't work.

Yet another reason they don't give is that our society is saturated with Democratic thinking and talking points. When BHO goes on air, he can't help but say something that every Democratic Senator, Representative and activist hasn't already said as reported and analyzed by ABC, CBS, NBC, the WP, NYT, LAT, etc., etc. When Marco Rubio gets on air, the clarity and common sense is like a bucket of ice water, it's so refreshing.

For every $1.00 you take in, spend $1.43 and even a financial illiterate could figure out the eventual end result of that plan.

I’m astonished that Mr. Greenberg actually believes the foolishness he’s spouting.

When reviewing the writer’s suggestions as to what the Dems need to do going forward, two things came to mind.
First, the Dems will never implement the few suggestions he made. It is absolutely not in their DNA.
Second, two things I can think of that would certainly help right the U.S. ship is term limits and a balanced budget amendment.

Amazingly such a smart guy runs up against the cold hard facts that everything he believes with every fiber of his being is totally wrong ~ then he proposes more of the same ~ more Fascist BS.

There's a class of people who appear to have never heard the words "feedom", "liberty", .......

May I encourage them to check into one of their very own inventions ~ the RE-EDUCATION CAMP ~ and not come out!

The government saved irresponsible executives who bankrupted their own companies, hurt many people and threatened the welfare of the country.

How dishonest can you be to cut that distinction and say nothing of the UAW and what it did to an industry which was then crashing, an inevitable bailout just months away. This kind of analysis, isn't even analysis.

What ignorance!

The people don’t trust the politicians and the progressive policies that have dominated America for the past 80 years... because those policies have never worked.

So the new prescription is: limit free speech; impose public funding of campaigns; eliminate campaign contributions (at least from conservative sources and for conservative causes); and let the progressives get out their new lying message for another go-round.

You can see this guy was groomed and learned his talking points in Bubba’s Administration.

The Democrats have to start detoxifying politics by proposing to severely limit or bar individual and corporate campaign contributions, which would mean a fight with the Supreme Court.

Why do Democrats need the government to tell them not to take corporate contributions?

All they have to do is not take them. There would be no need for Supreme Court fights.

This guy’s article is a big reason why people don’t like them. He’s a hardcore leftist and what does he do? As usual he talks down to people and goes on about how we’re just too stupid to know that the democrats *really* stand for the little guy. You hear that idiots? Vote for us!

I love how he uses that historically great time the democrats have given us when prsidents in the last 50 years. That’s basically Carter and Clinton and now Obama. Real great job guys.

Clinton got lucky for about 3 years to have a solid Republican congress that acted like they should and a tech boom. I guess they forgot about the whole NAFTA fiasco part.

The Dems are the party of Wall St. and big business. They say that the GOP is and the Stupid Party lets them get away with it. Who does Jeffery Immelt work with and which party is shoving green light bulbs down our throat. Big business wants to legislate away the competition via the Dems limiting freedom. Conservatives are for small business and liberty. This needs to be said time after time. We have let the libs lie about us for too long. It’s time the extremist tag went where it belongs, not on the Tea Party but on the Progressives.

The GOP is the party of small business.

For now, anyway.

Greenberg is a Marxist totalitarian shill, pretending to lecture DemoRats so he can push public campaign funding.

Just more Marxist bastard hands in the taxpayer's pocket, and Communist union thug money laundered contribution protection.

They must make the case for public financing of campaigns

Incredible statement.

The case was ALREADY MADE for public financing.

OBAMA is the one who REFUSED TO TAKE public financing...McCain did.

What an idiotic statement, Greenberg.
