Sen. Santorum throws down a gauntlet to the other candidates on marriage:
"What New York did was wrong. I will oppose it. And I will go to New York if necessary and help overturn it....The 10th Amendment does not mean that states can do whatever they want whenever they want it..."
He seems to be referring to reports that Gov. Perry said he's "fine" with gay marriage in New York.
Me too!
LOL. I think it’s funny how he’s acting like he’s a relevant candidate. Cracks me up.
They're a disgusting bunch of people with a very disgusting lifestyle that should proudly wear the badge of HOMOSEXUALITY.
I too like Santorum better than Perry, but I agree with Perry on this one. Can’t have the 10th amendment only when it is convenient.
Rick Santorum and the G.O.P. had all three branches of government for years. Abortion is still legal. Gay “marriage” is on the march across the land.
I believe that the social issues are the carrot and social conservatives are the horse. They think if they ever give us that carrot, we no longer have a reason to vote for them.
No G.O.P. congress or White House will EVER outlaw abortion or gay ‘marriage’ or roll back the sham of gays in the military.
“Cant have the 10th amendment only when it is convenient.”
Can we claim to love the Constitution but hate the 10th amendment?
;-)
No, and it is futile to even hope for it. It's all about the judges. Wouldn't matter what they enact if a judge overturns it. At least W gave us Alito and Roberts on the Supreme court. That's a start.
You nailed it. The GOP has been conning conservatives for decades. Perry's tactic is to invoke the 10th Amendment, while spouting "social conservative" rhetoric in Texas, where there is no risk.

Here is the 10th Amendment which Gov. Perry bases his opinion:
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”
And I am fine with that.
So you are ok with everyone having the same rights and responsibilities under the constitution so long as they make the choices that you would make or approve of?
I believe marriage, as defined by the majority of our society for the past 235 years, should be between a man and a woman. Not a man and a man, not a woman and a woman, not a couple of women and a man, not 10 women and 10 men.
A very liberal view and broad definition of the 10th or 14th Amendments is a slippery slope. Gay Marriage will just be a beginning.
I agree with you! The others have been intimidated by political correctness and are simply adopting the first politically correct definition of it. Those who support it, the Left, are always careful to adopt the least offensive terminology.
Down with political correctness! It is designed to keep people like you from calling things as they are!
“Good try!”
Not trying anything, just asking a question.
“I believe marriage, as defined by the majority of our society for the past 235 years, should be between a man and a woman. Not a man and a man, not a woman and a woman, not a couple of women and a man, not 10 women and 10 men.”
This is also my opinion, but not for the same reason. Once these folks get married in some state that allows it, they will be moving to states that do not and will be challenging DOMA which the Obama administration will not defend. Basically they demand that you and I not just tolerate, but approve of them.
I do not however believe that we can say “I believe in and love the U.S. Constitution!” (except when it allows things to happen that I don’t like.”
My favorite amendment besides the 1st and 2nd is the tenth. I don’t want the federal government telling states what to do, even if it is something that I agree with.
I probably sound crazy but I blame that on lack of coffee and the fact that as I get older I tend to be sounding some of the time like a libertarian...”You leave me alone, I leave you alone, we’re all happy.” really appeals to me lately.
We don't live in a society which the majority rules. We live in a society which a politically powerful minority rules.
Sorry for misinterpreting your prior reply. My feelings of Gov. Perry's stance does annoy me. It seems like a perfect political answer in order to claim both sides of an issue.
FYI
Perry apears to be walking back his prior statement.

Well that’s probably for the best.
